About this Cook
I live in Illinois. I have been married for 31 years. We have 3 kids, 29,26,and 21. I work in an school library.
My favorite things to cook
I love to try new recipes but my family doesn't appreciate it. They like my old tried and true recipes. I love to bake. I like to cook Mexican, Italian and Asian.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We always have Thanksgiving dinner. That is a meal that you don't mess with. No experiments. My husband does at least half of the meal. He does the stuffing, gravy and the turkey. I do the rest. I also enjoy baking Christmas cookies.
My cooking triumphs
for many years I made wedding cakes. I enjoyed it but it was stressful. They always seemed to be on really hot weekends. Delivery was hard.
My cooking tragedies
Haven't had too many. The worst was when we were first married. i bought nice steaks for our anniversary. I lit the grill. I thought the coals were ready so I put the steaks on. Then I decided the coals weren't hot enough. I added lighter fluid without taking the steaks off. I cooked the steaks. They were inedible because they tasted like lighter fluid. I now use a gas grill.

Yummy Cheese Ball
I made this and divided into 2 cheese balls for 2 parties. Both times they were devoured. Everyone loved it. Don't skimp on the bacon. That's what makes it so good.

Grill Dough
I don't often review recipes. I loved this one. I made the dough exactly as the recipe states. I made 1 big pizza. I sprinkled the back of a cookie sheet with corn meal, put the pizza on that and slid it right onto the grill. I also cooked it for 5 minutes on 1 side and flipped it and added toppings. Delicious. Very easy dough to work with. I also think the grilling gave it a slightly smokey flavor like a real brick oven pizza. I want to add, I made it on a charcoal grill using indirect heat.

Big Germans
I loved this recipe. I made it in a cast iron skillet and served it with fresh strawberries
