Me and my new hubby!
About this Cook
I am a newlywed in the Northwest Ohio area. I am an Admissions Rep, and am always looking for recipes I can make ahead, or prepare in a slow cooker, as work a lot of evenings, and can't start a meal when I get home. We have a Cavalier puppy named Clark Gable. This website is the greatest thing ever! As I explained to my husband when we were dating...it's not that I "can't" cook, it's that I'm rather unimaginative when it comes to recipes, so thanks to this website, I have TONS of ideas!
My favorite things to cook
I love baking. Cookies, cakes, pies. I would much rather bake than cook. I think it's because I have such strong childhood memories of baking with my mom. It was so much more fun than cooking dinner. Plus, people get really excited over baked treats! I will, however, eat pretty much anythig if it is served with pasta.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking cookies at Christmas time is a big one. Everyone had their own special cookie that they made: butter cookies, sugar cookies, foldovers, these "new york" cookies my grandma made. Thanksgiving is the other big food holiday. I think we all make the same stuff every year, but that's the way our family likes it.
My cooking triumphs
Actually, this was recently. I made biscuits and gravy from scratch using a recipe on this site. My best friend told me how easy it was to make your own sausage gravy, so I thought I'd give it a try. It was awesome, and even though it really was rediculously easy, I was really proud of myself that I made gravy "from scratch".
My cooking tragedies
I haven't had a MAJOR screw up...yet. I feel like I failed when I try something, and I know my husband doesn't like it. If I don't like I don't mind as much, but I kind of take it personally if he doesn't like something.

Cookies 'n Cream Cake
I made exactly as directions said (except used the 13X9 pan) and it came out amazing! I did use an old trick my mom taught me for box cake mixes: when it calls for 1 1/4 cups of water, use 1 cup water, and 1/4 cup milk. It really makes a moister cake. I brought this into work, and a girl said it was good enough to be her wedding cake! ANd the frosting really does taste just like Oreo cream. Thanks! I will definitely make this again!

Chocolate Chip Cheesecake I
I have never made a cheesecake before, and I'm sad this is my first one...because it's all downhill from here! I couldn't believe I made this! AND it was so easy! I did add more of the mini chips than it said to the batter, but I like chocolate! So, so yummy!Very creamy and sweet.

Linda's Lasagna
My mom has used cottage cheese in her lasagna for years, and it is awesome! For those who hate cottage cheese (like me), try it anyway. It tastes nothing like cold cottage cheese. If you are still skeptical, or just like cheesy lasagna, I like to use both the small curd cottage cheese AND the ricotta. SO good!
