I made this for my grandma and aunt, but I did not try it. I used a 2.5lb roast with 1 packet of Lipton's beefy onion soup mix, 1 cup water, 2 carrots, 5 medium new potatoes and a small onion sliced. As suggested, I seasoned with Montreal steak seasoning and seared in a cast iron pan with hot olive oil, then added to the crock and cooked on high for 4 hours. They both said it was extremely tender and really good. They ate almost all if it, just the 2 of them, for dinner. :) Thanks for the recipe!
