I was looking for something to do with leftover ham. This recipe was the recipe of the day - so I decided to try it. Wow! It's wonderful. I know I should follow a recipe exactly the first time, but even with good intentions, I always seem to modify. I just used enough water to cover the veggies and ham I cut, so it was probably more than 3 1/2 cups. I made the rue with 8 T of butter and 8 T of flour - just didn't want 3 T of leftover butter. I left out the salt, and I also used 3 cups of Half & Half instead of milk (I was low on milk). Last change I made was to add a leek. It is soooo good.
