German Potato Pancakes

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2005
Very good! I used pre-shredded hash brown potatoes with onions and peppers in them. I wasn't exactly sure how many potatoes that consisted of, so I kinda guesstimated, and I ended up adding another egg and more flour. I used plain yogurt instead of sour cream, and they were delicious. My only complaint is that they were rather greasy, at least for my taste, but a very good comfort food.

Green Salad with Cranberry Vinaigrette

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2005
Wow! I served this to company and it was a hit! I did double the dijon mustard and cranberries in the dressing as I thought it was a bit too vinegary. I also threw in some dried cranberries in the salad to make it a bit more colorful. Very good!

Chicken Breasts with Herb Basting Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2005
I loved it! I overcooked the chicken a bit so mine was a bit dry, however that was my own fault, not the recipe's. I will definitely make this again only next time be more cautious about the cooking time.

Garden Veggie Pizza Squares

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2005
Turned out great! I had a hard time shaping the crescents, so I just made it into a regular pizza cut into little squares. It turned out great, it was gone before the first hour!

Italian Style Chili

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2005
My mother used to make a dish very similar and it was everyone's favorite! This was delicious. It is definitly different than your average chili, but very good. I will definitely make this again. Don't pass this up, you will love it, too.

Chuck's Favorite Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2005
I wasn't too crazy about it, but my family loved it! If I make this again I would definitely use 2% large curd cottage cheese. I used fat free dry curd and I think that is what I didn't like, but everyone else like it.

Little Meat Loaves

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2005
I found this recipe and decided to give it a try. Around the time I started making the mini loaves, I realized I had made this recipe before. It must've looked so good I picked it out twice. The first time it was for company, and everyone loved it. They ate it all. This last time it was for family and I got the same response. I will definitely make this again.

American Lasagna

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2005
I personally did not care for this, mostly because I am used to my mother's recipe. However, everyone else loved it, so I'm going to be fair. I personally thought it needed more sauce, so I doubled everything but the meat because it was very meaty. I also sprinkled more parmesean on top, because 2 tbs didn't cut it. Contrary to what others said, it did not come out dry, the ricotta mix was good and really makes it original, and it looked very appealing!

Newport Clam Chowder

Reviewed: May 3, 2005
This recipe was good, however a little thin. I recommend more potatoes. At the end I ended up adding instant potato flakes to make it thicker. I would also use the suggested amount of clam juice...1/2 clam and 1/2 chicken broth just didn't cut it, but then again I like clams a lot. I also used canned clams... way easier and cheaper.

Three Cheese Garlic Scalloped Potatoes

Reviewed: May 3, 2005
This recipe is time consuming. It took a while to slice potatoes and garlic, and the cook time as well. BUT it was well worth the wait! Very good. I added extra garlic and salt. It was a bit greasy, but very very good.

Strawberry Spinach Salad I

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2005
I was a little skeptical about this recipe, but I gave it a shot. I would have given it 4 stars because I thought the dressing was way too sweet, but everyone else LOVED it. They all packed it up in their lunches the next day. If you are not big on sweet stuff, like me, then cut the sugar in half, but if you like sweets, go for it! Great recipe Andrea.

Garlic Mashed Potatoes Secret Recipe

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2005
I scaled this down to 10 servings... the amount of garlic was insane, even after cutting it in half it was way overpowering! Romano... nice touch. Way too much butter! Holy cow! I pulled out a huge chunk of butter after I mashed it for a while. What can I say, I will eat the leftovers, but probably not make it again.

Fruit Pizza I

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2005
Brought it to the fireworks on 4th of July, and it didn't last very long. I used strawberries, bananas, kiwi, peaches and raspberries. Not only did it look pretty, it tasted excellent. The only thing I changed was I 1/2ed the sugar for the cream cheese filling, but I am not big on sweet stuff.

Creamy Turnip With Paprika Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2005
If you like turnips I think this recipe is for you. While I don't care for them, I am trying to be fair to the recipe.b I had a garden with too many turnips in it and needed to get rid of some, so I chose this recipe. I used 1/2 whole milk and 1/2 skim instead of 1/2 and 1/2, and I still think it turned out a little too thick, so I added some more milk. At that point, for all you turnip lovers, it was probably about 4 stars. However, I don't like turnips so I added some instant mashed potato flakes, milk and more sugar, and it was much better for me. I guess, I wouldn't try this unless you absolutely love turnips.
