Curried Honey Mustard Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2013
What a wonderful and simple dish. It really tastes much more complex than it is. I make this at least once a month for my husband. And my 2 year old likes it!

This was so flavorful and really unforgettable. Everyone in my family is still talking about it and I made it over two months ago...time to make it again!

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2013
This is a solid Au Gratin recipe, my family really enjoyed it over the holiday. My husband and I both felt that it was missing some punch...maybe some extra cheese and some garlic. Also I wasn't into the onion rings so I sautéed some diced onion and mixed them in with the potato I also mixed the sauce in with the potatoes and put bread crumbs on the top. I think this bumped the recipe up to a 4...maybe.

Cherry-Blueberry Pie

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2013
This is really so good. I am chuckling as I write this because I'm really not a pie person and I'm especially not a fruit pie person but I had some canned cherries close to expiration and some blueberries in the fridge. Anyway...BRAVO--such a simple and yummy pie.

Black Bottom Cupcakes I

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2013
I remember these from when I was a kid. A neighbor used to make them so I was interested to try them for myself 30 years later. They just didn't do it for me this time. I love cream cheese, I LOVE chocolate...and I even make a few with jelly. I would make them again because my family really liked them but I would say that there are other recipes that thrill me more.

Ashley's African Peanut Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2013
My brother thought this soup was amazing and basically ate all of it over the course of the week. Other people in my family didn't like it at all. I won't make it again.

Slow-Cooker Lasagna

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2013
When I think of slow-cooker I think quick and easy. I didn't feel that this was any easier than cooking it in the oven and I didn't care for the flavor.

Simple, Classic Chicken Potpie

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2013
I can't believe I haven't rated this yet. This is, hands down, one of my favorite recipes. Anywhere. I follow it to a "T" and get beaming results. I use a ready made pie crust and store bought rotisserie chicken to cut down on the cook time.

Mediterranean Puff Pastry Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2013
This recipe stands a solid 5 stars as-is. However, I have tried this recipe a number of times with some alterations. I tried filo once, different cheeses and one time I forgot the egg mixture. Here are my thoughts: don't bother with the egg and garlic dredge, it's extra work and not necessary--use mozzarella or, even better I have a shredded mozzarella/provolone mix--skip the feta.

Italian Spinach Sausage Pie

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2013
This is a good recipe. I will say that it was pretty heavy. The double crust makes this a dense dish. I wonder how it would taste with philo instead.

Sweet and Sour Stuffed Cabbage

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2013
This is such a great recipe and everyone in my family has loved it. That being said, it is a little sweet and ketchupy in my opinion. My brother liked that about it and was basically drinking the sauce.

Ohio Sausage and Kale Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2013
This recipe surprised me. It's so simple and when it first pulled together I didn't even really love the smell BUT after simmering for a few hours I have to say, it was wonderful. In fact, I think that it was best the next day. My 2 year old loves it...for what it's worth. I plan on putting this recipe in my rotation :)

Puff Pastry Salmon Bundles

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2013
What a gourmet recipe! I enjoyed making it, though I must confess my final outcome was a bit rustic looking. I was surprised that the portions were so large and filling. I served mine with a side salad and think I might make them a bit smaller in the future. The filling was an interesting combination of flavors and I wish that I was sophisticated enough to fully appreciate the egg but instead found it a little odd...and I love eggs! I think that I might omit them next time. I love the idea of a creamy sauce inside the pastry but mine turned into an egg and onion clump with some asparagus to one side. Don't get me wrong, I give this recipe a strong 4 stars but will continue to look for something similar but without the egg. Finally, the lemon dill sauce tasted wonderful but mine did not really thicken, I wonder what I did wrong.

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2012
Wow, what a perfect recipe. I would say this is my very favorite recipe on this site. I also made a gluten free version of these with Bob's Red Mill flour and some xanthan gum. No one guessed they were gluten free and when I told all of my guests--after tons of complements they were pretty floored. My favorite combination is bittersweet chocolate chips with very finely chopped walnuts. I almost always add a little almond extract even if I'm using a different nut inside...I just love the flavor it adds and really isn't that what it's all about?

Grandma's Baked Rice Pudding with Meringue

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2012
This is a great recipe...but...I don't get the meringue. I feel like such a traitor! I am a meringue enthusiast, I am! BUT in this recipe it just seemed so out of place. I felt like I was having two separate desserts together and missing the lemon filling or something. Next time I'll skip the meringue or maybe just make a pie if I'm in such a mood.
