Chef John's Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2013
Excellent recipe. I only made a few changes. I used a roasted chicken from the store instead of roasting my own (I wanted the soup fast due to illness). I also always add extra helpings of veggies (my daughter loves carrots) so I upped the thyme. I cooked the veggies as directed, but also added Herbs de Provence and some smoked paprika. Even without sauteing the veggies and herbs in the chicken fat, it was excellent. Oh, and I am now a fan of Better than Buillon. If you have not yet tried this, I highly recommend you do. Happy cooking!

Creamy Hot Cocoa

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2013
I modified, after reading other reviews of this recipe, by reducing the amount of sugar. Other than that, excellent. My daughter often asks me for hot cocoa now.

Traditional Chili with Ground Turkey

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2014
A great, traditional chili recipe, just what I was looking for! I do not write many reviews, but I had to for this one. I didn't follow the recipe to a T, instead I subbed dried oregano (I didn't measure how much I used)for the thyme. I also used Indian chili powder, which is very spicy, so I reduced chili powder to ~3/4 Tbsp. I also reduced cumin to 1 Tbsp, both because my husband doesn't like overpowering cumin and because I ran out :) I cooked and browned the turkey separately from the onions and peppers. I added my turkey to the onion mix after the initial 8 min. and then threw in my spices. Also, in place of the fresh/pickled jalapeños, I used Ranchero pinto beans with jalapeños. My husband thought it was great. Also, on a side note, I made Alex Guarnaschelli's easy cast iron skillet cornbread to go with it; I highly recommend this cornbread recipe!
