Aunt Anne's Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2010
This is a perfect morning cake! Delicious, fluffy and super simple. Made it in a 9inch round pan...planned to use the 9x13 but didn't look like it would be enough. It was perfect in the round pan! Layered the topping and added some chopped walnuts to the top. Couldn't have been better! ( take it out before the top starts to brown and it will be super moist, and addicting!)

Chocolate Chip Date Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2011
scrumptious! I loved it! SO moist! I usually dont have dates on hand but we had a bunch left over from Christmas that I didn't want to waste! wanted to follow the recipe exactly , but accidentally mixed the chocolate chips into the batter and only had a handful of (wal)nuts to add to the top with the sugar. I used butter, not shortening, and increased the recipe by a half, poured into two loaf pans, as I intended to give one as a gift to a neighbor in thanks for a little favor she did. let's just say, she'll probably be getting peanut butter cookies from us instead! lol.

Pasta with Asparagus

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2011
Superbly simple and delish! Made it 100% according to the recipe...light but tasty flavor. We didn't find it at all bland. Though I did wonder how it might be with a bit of garlic and a lemon squeeze! Might experiment later but this is a definite keeper recipe for a quick meal, even for company, as is!

Breaded Dijon Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2010
Super easy!! And These are excellent, will definitely make them again. Very tender, moist, flavorful. Used breadcrumbs not crackers, needed a bit of salt in breading mix. Subbed sage with dry parsley b/c it was all I had on hand. Cooked in olive oil! Dijon gives it the perfect flavor and texture- I wouldn't use regular mustard. Thanks for an easy staple recipe that's delish!

Classic Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2010
this is definitely a keeper, and very versatile! I did use half the sugar, and it was still a tad on the too-sweet side. Also used red pepper, didn't opt for the pimentos, & added some frozen peas and canned tuna. One of those stand-by recipes for BBQ's and summer potlucks! yummmm

Simple Spinach Lasagna

Reviewed: May 7, 2011
Perfect for a Friday in Lent ;) it doesn't taste overly spinachy and you don't even miss the meat. My husband in particular likes this and he's not very vegetarian!

Crispy Rosemary Chicken and Fries

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2010
This was pretty darn good! Made it last night and loved how easy it was! Ours turned out very crispy...but I'd be sure to turn the chicken over half way or so through the cooking time. Also alternated cooking uncovered with cooking with aluminum foil over the top, and added about 10 min or so to the cooking time. We omitted the potatoes to keep the carbs down and used carrots and halved cherry tomatoes instead. Nice color! Next time though I will be sure to use fresh garlic and rosemary, and add some spices under the skin. The meat was incredibly tender, but a bit bland. Maybe will marinate for an hour or so as some others mentioned, and squeeze a bit of fresh lemon juice on top. There definitely will be a next time!!!!:)

Lemon Yogurt Pound Cake with Lemon Glaze

Reviewed: May 19, 2010
This was a very good cake and I will definitely make it again to see if it can be a real 5-star! I used the suggestion of half olive oil/ half butter in place of Crisco, and added in some poppy seeds. Also cut down the sugar a bit, which I won't do next time around. Definitely a keeper. It didn't take us to cloud 9, but maybe that was my fault not the recipe's. Still, I wouldn't hesitate to serve it for a tea or shower. (and LOVED the glaze!)

Lemon Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2003
makes an excellent and moist loaf of bread. everybody who tried it liked it! Didn't have lemon zest, so used real lemon juice and a tsp of rind. Also added 2tsp vanilla just for fun. Lemon flavor was a bit understated still though. thanks for this new recipe!

Jenny's Grilled Chicken Breasts

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2010
very good! tender and tasty! Used fresh lime juice and had to forego the onion powder because didn't have any. Let it marinade for about 10 minutes before cooking. definitely will use it again, maybe with longer marinade time in the fridge + the onion powder. Definitely would recommend trying the lime!!!

Orange Spiced Chicken

Reviewed: May 19, 2010
5 stars, conditional on switching the measurements for the soy and OJ. I even added a bit more OJ. Used honey instead of sugar, and upped the amt of garlic and ginger. Used BONE-IN CHICKEN-- which I do believe makes a difference. Let it marinade for about 2 hours, and then cooked in slow cooker on high for 4 hours, low for 2 more. It was truly scrumptious! served with a side of rice. Happily eating the leftovers for lunch!

Onion Rice

Reviewed: May 19, 2010
Used two small vidalia onions in olive oil, and before adding the chicken broth, added two tablespoons of orange juice- to hint at the spiced orange chicken I was serving it with, and then 1/2 TBS of sesame seeds at the end, just because I love them! I was afraid the orange and onion flavors would contradict, but it was actually very good, and went perfectly with the main dish. Will make again! thanks Denyse!!

Honey Of An Oatmeal Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2012
There is no better bread. This is the Queen of all bread machine recipes. Just tried it out and messed it up as much as anyone could [ ie, my honey was super thick, so the dough was too dry. Added little water mid-cycle. Then it was too moist. Added a bit of flour. Then it was too dry..etc. You get the picture] I added some sunflower and flax seeds and dried cranberries at some point with blatant disregard for the add-ins beep. I was sure it was going to be a flop. Well, I'm embarrassed to say that my husband and I devoured the loaf for lunch. the WHOLE THING! It's DELICIOUS, it's EASY. It seems pretty fool-proof. Try it! Thanks Merrilee!!

Super Easy Rosemary Bread Machine Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2012
Excellent recipe! SO easy and came out PERFECTLY! nice thin crunchy crust, super soft dough. loved the step by step instructions for using regular dry yeast instead of bread machine yeast which I can never find here! Threw in some coarsely chopped black olives and chives. Cut back on the thyme. Next time will double up on the garlic and rosemary for a more poignant savory taste. Lives up to it's name though! Super Easy! Thanks for the recipe!
