Fast and easy recipe. Added some ground red pepper for more zip. Omitted the green pepper. Overall, I thought it was a good recipe. Thanks for the recipe. Will make it again!

Beef Barley Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2004
Oh wow! This was great! I didn't follow the directions well, but it still turned out awesome. I cooked the meat (I used venison steaks) in the slow cooker with a large can of beef broth and a chicken bouillon cube and 1 cup water. Which I still used for the soup. But I did add an additional small can of beef broth and 2 cubes of bouillon with 8 oz. water. I didn't have frozen veggies so I used canned. I added extra celery and onions. Also doubled the barley like some of the reviews mentioned. I also added ground red pepper to add more zip. My family loved it, even my kids! Look forward to making it again!!!!!!!

I made this with canned yams. It turned out great. It is sweet, but the kid's loved it!!!! It didn't seem too sweet. I also put marshmallows on top. Thanks for the new recipe.

Marinated Mushrooms II

EXCELLENT! This sure was a crowd favorite! I made these for an 80th birthday party and they were the first things to go. I thought the vinegar was too tangy so I poured out some of it and added soy sauce to taste. I didn't have any dry mustard, but added a couple drops of hot sauce instead. I made these a couple days in advance and each day they got better. I used 4 boxes of fresh mushrooms. They were a huge hit, especially with all the men that are "hunters and fishermen". I will make these again!!

Pork Sausage and Cabbage Pitas

Great, fast and tasty recipe. BUT, watch the red pepper. Thankfully I read the reviews before making this and only added 1 teaspoon of red pepper and it was still too hot for the kids to eat! We like spicy foods, but even cutting down the amount of pepper it was still spicy. The taste was a great combination. And it was such a quick recipe to make. I WILL make it again, but only add a pinch of red pepper.
