About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I'm all over the map. I'll try anything that might taste good...Italian, Mexican, breads, appetizers, desserts. The only thing I routinely make every month or so is the Belgian waffles.
My cooking triumphs
My first cheesecake came out exceptionally well. I followed all the tips on this site for making a cheesecake and it came out perfect. Now I'm just waiting for an opportunity to make another.
My cooking tragedies
I made potatoes au gratin for Christmas. It was the second time I made it, and I decided to not peel the potatoes due to time constraint. The baking process turned the whole dish an frightful and unappitizing brown color. It tasted fine to me, but I still took home most of it.

Grandma's Lemon Meringue Pie
Sweet and Tarty...just like my girlfriend. I was initially concerned about hand squeezing lemons and getting enough juice so I'll admit I did buy lemon juice (gasp!). But I tried squeezing the lemons that I bought for the zest and it turned out it was very easy. Whipping the egg whites takes time so don't get discouraged if it looks like nothing is happening.

Pasta with Fresh Tomato Sauce
I had my doubts, but it worked out just fine. I made it according to the recipe and I thought the dressing was a little overpowering. I then drizzled a little olive oil on it and it was much better. I'll be making this again.

Maple Salmon
Good dish for a non-fish eater. The maple syrup adds a little sweetness and cuts down on the fishy taste. Don't be afraid of the garlic...as it cooks, the garlic loses its pungency and actually acquires a mellower taste.
