Incredibly Delicious Italian Cream Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2004
WAY too sweet. Cake wasn't particularly moist. I toasted both the nuts & the coconut for the frosting and put some in the frosting and pressed nuts into side withh toasted cocoanut on top as suggested here. Not worth the effort for a scratch cake.

Grandma's Corn Pudding

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2003
Quite bland, though it looked like I expected. Needs something to give it some kick. Onions? Jalapenos? Something.

Brandied Orange and Cranberry Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2003
Outstanding. 2 people at dinner asked for the recipe. My daughter's boyfriend said it was the best he's ever had and he loved cranberry sauce.

Double Layer Pumpkin Cheesecake

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2003
Taste was great but the layers were not apparent whcih I think woudl have added to the visual appeal. Perhaps it was something; the first layer sort of absorbed teh second when it was added.

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2003
this was a great balance between tart & savory flavors. I made some without the turkey sausage for my vegetariam daughter and it was good, too. I added a but more broth than was called for but I like stuffing moist. It worked well both inside & outside-baked-in-a-dish. A great tip: use a slice of bread to "seal" the stuffing inside the bird and I also put 2 slies over the extra which was baked in a loaf pan to keep it from drying out and that worked well.

Allie's Delicious Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2003
The only reason I rated it 4 and not 5 stars is I thought it was a bit lackign in "cheesy" flavor; I followed the recipe generally adding dry mustard and worchesterchire as suggested in a review and bread crumbs & cheese on top and broiling it at the end. Next time, I'll add a larger proportion of sharp cheddar for my personal taste but it was definitely a keeper. It needs the topping, though as a foil for the mushiness of the casserole.

Babe Ruth Bars II

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2003
These didn't look as bad as I expected after readign previous reviews. I think the cornflakes sticking out of the chocolate "goo" may be what others found unappetizing. I did go ahead and sprinkle more chocolate chips and crushed peanuts on top and I ran it back into the microwave briefly so the chips woudl melt a little bit. Really, it would have been OK (especialyl for kids) as written. This one will keep the dentists in business.

Spinach and Strawberry Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2003
Great blend of tastes. The slightly bitter taste of the spinach was balanced by the citrusy sweetness of the berries. used 1/2 the sugar called for in the dressing and only used 1/2 the dressing. More woudl have overwhelmed it.

Best Beef Dip Ever

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2003
Just as advertised; easy with great taste. I also used lite soy sauce & 1 C less water (otherwise wouldn't fit my crock pot). Do serve with a horseradish sauce and crusty French bread for dipping.

Blue Cheese Potato Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2003
Definitely a repeater. I used 1/2 the olive oil (light) & vinegar called for and "real" bacon bits. Try this one.

Balsamic Bleu Cheese Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2003
Easy and quite good. Defintely a repeater. Use a good crumbled blue cheese. I added very thinly sliced red onion, just a bit and thought it was a good option.

Absolutely the Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2003
Good, but I guess I'm too used to the traditional "Toll House" recipe and this just didn't top that. I did make 2 batches with 2 different mexican vanillas and like the one with the Neilson-Massey vanilla better versus the HUGE bottle of vanilla from Mexico I found.

White Sangria

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2003
Made this for a Shakespeare in the Glen picnic and it was a huge hit. I took the previous reviewers advice and omitted the white sugar entirely. I did add sliced strawberries as they were lovely and in peak season and I thought it made the sangria that much more beautiful but I guess it did make it not strictly "white" anymore.
