Cream Puffs I

Reviewed: May 26, 2009
I tried this recipe for the shells because I was out of butter and couldn't make my usual ones. I don't know what happened, but I did not care for this recipe. The did not rise or even cook through after being in the oven 20 minutes longer than called for. They were very greasy as well. Sorry for such a low rating. If this was my first time making the puffs, I would have thought I did something wrong, but I followed the recipe to a T.

We loved these. Mine were a little limp, but tasted fabulous! Will try using panko bread crumbs next time.

Fried Okra

Reviewed: May 12, 2009
I'd like to give this a better rating, but as written it just wasn't that good. The breading fell off and the okra wasn't that crunchy. The third batch I made, I used 1/2 cup milk and let the okra sit and absorb it for about an hour. Then dredged it in cornmeal mixed with a bit of zataran's seasoning....much better!!!

Chris' Bay Area Burger

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2009
These were good. With any burger, before grilling, pop the patties into the freezer for about 10 minutes. It helps hold in the juices and makes for a super flavorful burger.

Shirley Temple I

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2009
I loved ordering these when I was a kid, and now my kids love them too. We always have something going on at our house, so it's a real treat for them to have a "grown up" drink. I normally make this in batches, but I think the recipe calls for too much grenadine per soda amount.

Bacon 'n' Egg Bundles

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2009
The family loves when we make these. We let everyone put their own "toppings" in their egg (green pepper, onion, ham, cheese, tomato, etc.)They are so cute, you can't help put gobble them up.

Spinach Whole Wheat Quesadillas

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2009
These were great. We have been trying to eat less meat, and these make a great lunch. I have made them a few times and we like them with mozzarella or feta cheese. Goes nice with the spinach. Update: Try adding artichokes - OMG! YUM!

Eggs on the Grill

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2009
We will never go camping without our muffin tin again. These were great and versatile. Since the weather is warming up, we like to have breakfast outside on the weekends, and this is perfect! We can cook and eat outside. Thanks for a great idea!

Festival-Style Grilled Italian Sausage Sandwiches

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2009
I have been making these sandwiches on the stove for years, so I tried this recipe for the grilling method. OMG, the veggies were to die for. I could have just eaten them without the sausage. I can't wait to make more dishes with the grilled veggies....hum, fajitas!

Garlic Bread Mama Rita's Way!

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2009
I tried these under the broiler and in the oven and we prefer the oven. My neighbor insists on using mayo in place of butter when it comes to cooking bread and sandwiches. I thought it a little weird, but he is a chef so I tried it and LOVED it! The mayo adds a nice moistness. If I had not already tried the mayo, I probably would have omitted it in this recipe, but glad I didn't.

Tomato Bacon Grilled Cheese

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2009
These are so good! We use to serve these on the merchant ships and it was always my favorite lunch. I only use one slice of cheese though. Between the butter, bacon, and cheese there is enough grease and fat going on.

Taco Salad III

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2009
My husband got me started on the search for this recipe and I am sooo glad I found it. I LOVE this salad. I serve it up separate due to picky eaters and then add the dressing (it doesn't take much) and Frito's on top. My family loves tacos, so this is a little variation we throw in to mix it up. Thanks for sharing!!!

These were quite tasty. I followed the recipe exact except for adding cheese. Will like to try marinated artichokes and see.

These were really good and easy. It does take time since you can only cook so many at once. We like these with malt vinegar sprinkled on them.

This came out super juicy and delicious. I especially like that the directions state to DRINK half the beer instead of discard it.

Shredded Beef for Tacos

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2009
I used beer instead of wine (didn't have it), but other than that, kept recipe as is. Would like more seasonings in it to make it more "Mexican" tasting.

Pho

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2009
I had made this cause I heard Pho was good for hangovers...it definitely worked there. This is ok. You can buy Pho broth cubes at the Asian markets and that saves a little time and adds a more authentic flavor.

Very Good! A little messy, but worth it. Make sure you clean your pan right away or you'll be scrubbing for hours.

Chicken Pot Pie I

This is so easy and good. I used a can of cream of celery soup as well and splashed with milk until it was creamy. Frozen veggies work well too.

Basic Ham and Bean Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2009
The broth and flavor of this soup was really good. I used the nine bean soup mix bag (cause it was on hand) and wish I would have stuck to just the northern beans. There is a bean in the bag mix that stays crunchy and it's just weird.
