Sweet Party Mix

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2005
This was fantastic! One change I would make for myself is just using a larger disposable roasting pan for mixing. Other than that, super-easy and delish! Editing to add that I boil the corn syrup, sugar mixture for about 3-4 minutes. Also, the last time I made it, I used 4 cups of rice chex and 4 cups of wheat chex. It made for a nice crunchy mix that was just sweet enough. Very good!

Bubble 'n' Squeak

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2004
I love cabbage and bacon and potatoes and even ham! This dish just couldn't get any better for me. There is alot of chopping involved so to cut time, I bought the bag of shredded cabbage and a package of cubed ham. Please don't do what I did and think 'more has got to be better'. Just use 3 slices of bacon for 6 servings. As good as it is, more can simply overpower the dish. I did what some of the other reviewers did and served this with fried eggs. This really is comfort food at its best...especially on a cold, cold day.

Supreme Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2004
I've been searching for a great pasta salad and, although good, it's not great. I used Newman's Italian dressing with the Salad Seasoning and was disappointed in the reddish color it created. To be fair, my family liked it better than any other I've made so far, but we all still love my MIL's the best. NOTE: I did find out that she used Good Seasonings Zesty Italian dressing packet in hers. A nice spicy Italian with a nice crisp, clear taste in every bite.

Barbecued Beef

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2004
I took this to a church potluck....RAVE reviews!!! I did use pork instead of beef though...yummmmm! I chose hickory flavored liquid smoke in the sauce and added about 3/4 cup of hickory smoke bbq sauce to it as well. I did make another batch of sauce and bottled it in case anyone wanted any extra, but I thought it was just fine without it...and apparantely everyone else did too. I used about 11 lbs of pork (scaled to serve 24) and there was only a forkful left.

Mexican Cream Cheese Rollups

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2004
Although people at the party liked them, it was not at all what I was expecting. I found it a little bland and had too much of a mayo flavor. (I don't like mayo.) Also, all the beautiful colors from the individual ingredients just got muddy after mixing them. I was very disappointed. It just didn't look nice anymore. Maybe spreading the cream cheese and then sprinkling the ingredients on it before rolling will help. I'll keep my eye out in the reviews to see what others may have done.

The Best Chicken Salad Ever

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2004
I gave this recipe 5 stars. I thought this was a great salad; simple and easy to make with just a few ingredients. I loved it. NOTE: I don't have a food processor so I could only chop the chicken. I wish I had chopped them smaller, or even shredded them because my husband thought the salad was too runny. Again, I think it was because I could have chopped the chicken up more. I'm sure that would have helped. Also, I served it on flat bread. Too much bread per bite in my opinion. I prefer a better balance. My fault, my choice. Next time I'll try adding a chopped granny smith or something similiar. Another crunchy texture and a surprisingly sweet, tart addition. Yumm.

Creamy Peanut Towers

Try this with Nutella (hazelnut chocolate spread) without butter. It is fantastic. I would recommend, for visual effect, to use dark wheat bread alternated with the white. Yummy!

Caramel Crispy Treats II

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2004
These are fantastic...and SO easy! My variation was to mix in lightly salted, dry-roasted peanuts and some semi-sweet chocolate chips with the cereal and Milky Way, then to PRESS some more chocolate chips into the treat when in the pan. I also used a square baking pan because I like mine thicker. It looks like I'll have to double the recipe next time because we all wanted more! This really is better than any other rice krispy recipe I've ever made and so much easier (and with much less fuss). Thanks Cheryl.

Shieldzini

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2004
I would suggest using english cucumbers (fewer seeds) sliced on the diagonal, adding a few green onions sliced on the diagonal...optional but good, and substituting sesame oil for the vegetable oil. It's also good with a small sprinkling of sesame seeds too. My mom makes it this way and she's Japanese. It's fantastic!I checked with her today and she doesn't add sugar or rice wine vinegar. I always thought she had....at least added the vinegar I mean. I plan on making cucumber salad today as my side to teriyaki chicken and rice. I will try the vinegar because it sounds like a great balance to the other flavors. Enjoy it any way you make it. Cucumber salad is the best.

Aunt Nancy's Grape Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2003
Okay, I just wanted to add my review of a very similiar recipe. It contained 2 packages of seedless red or black grapes, 8 oz. cream cheese, 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/2 to 1 cup of chopped pecans. The cream cheese and sugar gets blended together with the pecans and grapes being folded in until coated. It is a wonderful fruit salad that just happens to have just grapes. I know it is a preference thing but I've had sooo many people ask me for the recipe. Nancy's recipe sounds great too...if not a little "lighter" with the whipped cream instead of sugar. Anyway, hope you enjoy.

Army SOS Creamed Ground Beef

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2003
I would make this again. It's easy and cheap. After reading the reviews, here's what I did differently: Added chopped onion. pressed garlic and sliced mushrooms while browning meat. Used 1 bouillion cube and 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup. Everything else was the same. Oh, I did just keep adding worchestershire sauce to taste. This dish was certainly thick enough to serve over toast or biscuits this way. I served mine with mashed potatoes and peas however. It's just what I had on hand.

Easy Tuna Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2003
Okay, this gets a five stars but I took liberties with the ingredients. Here's what I changed: 2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni, 12 oz. canned chicken;drained, 1-10.75 oz. crm of mushroom soup, 1-10.75 oz. crm of chicken soup, 3 cups of shredded sharp cheddar and 1/2 can of milk. I tossed in some frozen peas as well and just covered the entire dish with the french fried onions after it had baked for 25 minutes. All the cooking directions remained the same. I love this!...and so did my kids. My youngest son even went back for thirds. Wow. Thank you Lindsay.

Peanut Butter Chips and Jelly Bars

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2003
I loved this dish. It's fantastic! It makes you feel just like a little kid again. Hey, pass the milk! The hubby and the kids loved it too. Of course you can use any jelly you like, but I do prefer the grape. Happy eating.
