Apple, Cranberry, and Pear Crisp

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2004
This Crisp is so good!!! I've tried other plain apple crisp recipes and failed miserably. Pear is my favorite fruit, so perhaps the taste of it improved this old standard. Didn't have any cranberries, and it was still great. 2 thumbs up - this will become a family standard. Thank you , Barb :)

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2003
THIS IS, BY FAR, THE BEST, MOST SUCCESSFUL MUFFINS I HAVE EVER MADE FROM SCRATCH. AS USUAL, I USED LESS SUGAR (WHITE-1/4 C, TOPPING 1/4 C), ALSO HEEDING THE ADVICE OF ANOTHER REVIEWER WHO THOUGHT IT WAS TOO SWEET. BUT STILL 5 STARS!

Pecan Tassies

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2003
This was very good, and everybody loved them, but for myself, I thought some parts needed improvement. For instance, maybe something to make the crust/cup rise a bit (I like to push it in thin), and more pecans and less sugar - I really think sugar is over-used. Also, I've made this in another recipe where the filling got a little crisp, and I thought that was tastier. However, this recipe is easier and is still a crowd pleaser. 4 stars.

Butternut Squash Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2003
I found this to be an extremely successful recipe, but cut back on sugar to let more of the natural flavor through. I didn't think all the vanilla cookie topping was necessary, either. At times, I could have sworn I was eating pumpkin. This is a great recipe which I will make over and over again. Thank you, Ms. Moore!

Pear Bread II

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2003
You won't find too many pear recipes straying from this one. However, I used 1/2 cup more pear and 1/2 tsp. ground ginger which gives it a fresh spiciness. As a rule, I cut down on the sugar (-1/3 cup) so to taste the subtlties of the flavors (pear is a very subtle fruit), and did not use nuts. Also, I used an 8x8 pan and baked it in my toaster oven. And I would say that it was nearly perfect.

Aloo Phujia

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2003
I thought it would've been helpful to know how high the heat should have been. I ended up cooking the potatoes for much longer than 10 minutes, but with the tomatoes, this gave it a "stewier" texture. Also added more spices (believe it or not it wasn't hot enough for us) and added a little plain yogurt for creaminess. It all worked out, because my wife thought it superb and was willing to eat the entire thing for dinner.

Caramel Apple Pie II

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2003
I used honey instead of white sugar, and it made for a very soft flavor. I also had to bake for about 25 minutes longer. This was the first pie I ever made, and brought it to a dinner party and everyone really enjoyed it.

Urban Legend Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2003
I did hear this story and had this recipe, maybe 10 years ago. I was surprised and very happy to stumble upon it again! This is an outstanding recipe. When I heard about it, I was told it was Neman Marcus' or Marshall Fields.

Aunt Mary's Eggplant Balls

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2003
Being an eggplant lover, I find this recipe just wonderful. My wife, however, detests eggplants, but was successfully fooled when I made her these. She loved them too! These also work well as an alternative falafel. Lastly, I agree with other reviews concerning adding seasonings and mashing as you saute.

Simple Pancakes

These are just the right fluffiness and consistency. I had always relied upon mixes, and shopping through all the pancake recipes on "allrecipes.com," thought this was the best. Good job, Daniel!

Coconut Cake Bars

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2003
Overall, this IS a very yummy treat I will be making over and over again in the future. But I agree that the crust does not hold together well, but I found that by using 1/3 c butter in the crust and another TB of sugar did hold it together perfectly. I would also suggest using small eggs- I think I used Large ones and the topping was a little "omelet-y".
