Oven Fried Potatoes II

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2003
I served these potatoes with the chicken fried chicken from this site, and they were delicious! I'm not a big fan of anything lemon, but my mom and grandma were visiting, so I decided to make these because it seemed like something they would like. I ended up loving them, too! I used Morton's Nature Seasoning, and I only had bottled lemon juice, so that's what I used. I was surprised that the lemon really added such a good flavor. These will be a regular at my house!

Tanya's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: May 6, 2003
These cookies are WONDERFUL!!! They beat my other recipe hands down! They are moist with a wonderful taste and texture. My whole family loves them. My husband brought some to work, and there were requests for more. By the way, I didn't have any almond extract, so I just made them with the vanilla extract. I'm looking forward to trying them with the addition of almond extract. ****Following up 6 years later to say I did make them with the almond extract the next time, and the time after that, and the time after that....This is my most highly requested cookie recipe. The real secret is to take them out when they look not quite done. They will cook as they sit outside the oven on the cookie sheet, and will be crisp on the outside and soft on the inside.

Deep Dark Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: May 30, 2003
I know there are already a lot of reviews, but I'll add mine :) This cake and frosting recipe is the absolute BEST!!!! I have never had luck with frosting- past recipes have come out grainy or the sugar overpowers the flavor. This frosting turned out so delicious~! I didn't have any problem it being runny- I just added a little bit of milk at a time assuming that I might not need it all. I did end up using all the milk and my frosting had a "whipped" effect. It wasn't the least bit runny. I don't think I can ever eat a cake mix or canned frosting again without thinking of this recipe!

Cracked Sugar Cookies I

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2011
These cookies are perfect! (I did add 1/4 tsp almond extract, just because we love the taste.) I tried them three different ways based on the reviews I read. One cookie sheet just like the recipe, rolled and not dipped in anything. The second sheet with them rolled in sugar and pressed down more flat. The third sheet with them rolled in sugar and *not* pressed down. The cookies baked identically whether they were pressed down flat or not-meaning they had the same chewy consistency, and took the same (14 minutes) to cook. However, the cookies that weren't pressed down flat first had more of the crackling on top, when they were done cooking. I don't think rolling them in sugar is really necessary either. They were just as good without it. Bottom line- I think the recipe is good as is. :-)

Light & Tasty Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2003
Absolutely SCRUMPTIOUS! Husband and picky 4 yr old approved! I used all of the ingredients called for, but not the low-fat or low-salt versions- and broth in the place of white wine. This will be my regular stroganoff recipe! I'm looking forward to trying this with beef also :)

Gourmet Chicken Pizza

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2003
My husband was VERY skeptical about trying a pizza with no tomato sauce and chicken instead of pepperoni...He and my 4 year old are very picky eaters, but they tried this and ended up loving it! I didn't change much about the recipe, except I used 2 prebaked pizza shells, since I don't care for the refrigerated dough, and doubled the recipe for leftovers. I cooked the chicken with some Morton's Nature Seasons and a couple cloves of minced garlic. This pizza was filling and delicious!

Grandma's Homemade Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2003
I LOVE this banana bread! I normally use a betty crocker recipe, but decided to try a new one. Another recipe I tried on this site that had hundreds of reviews, did not taste good at all to me or my family- and I used a lot of bananas for that recipe! I only had two overripe bananas, but decided to try this easy recipe, rather than throwing them away. With less banana than called for, it tastes like a sweet bread with a taste of banana. The texture is really wonderful in this bread- not too heavy, and not too dry or too moist. Perfect :)

Baked Ziti I

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2003
I made this for my husband, daughter and sister and we all LOVED it! I did sort the suggestions by most helpful. After reading the suggestions, I mixed the pasta with the sauce and added generous minced garlic while browning the ground beef. I loosely covered the dish with foil during cooking, except for the last 10 min. Other than that, no changes. My husband and daughter asked that I make this regularly, and I will.

Pot Roast in Foil

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2003
I had never made pot roast in the oven, so I wanted to try this recipe. I have made almost this same recipe in the crock pot, and prefer it that way. The only difference with the crock pot, is to increase the water to 1/2 cup and cook on low 8 hours, or high 4 hours. The gravy is thicker in the crock pot and is all contained, rather than all over. I will make it this in the oven on a cold winter day to warm up the house though.

Beef Stew VI

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2003
I didn't change a thing about this recipe. This was the best stew I have ever tasted! My husband and picky daughter loved it! The meat literally melts in your mouth. My 5 year old daughter is not crazy about meat, unless it's chicken tenders, and the first thing she said was, "Good meat mom!" That was enough for me to add this to our permanent recipe file. It's also delicious left over.

Creamy Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2003
My family loves anything with potatoes, and this recipe did not disappoint! The only thing I changed was using cream of chicken soup instead of the cream of potato. It was a good, flavorful casserole that I'm going to use at a Christmas brunch.

Broccoli Rice Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2003
This was a very good casserole that I brought to Thanksgiving dinner at the relatives. I did not cook the brocolli first, because chopped brocolli cooks very quickly. I read a few other reviews about how the casserole lacked "pizazz". It's brocolli, I don't expect it to have pizazz, but I like it to be cheesy :) I added shredded cheddar cheese to the top in the last 10 minutes of cooking, and it was wonderfully, deliciously cheesy. Everyone ate it and liked it, so I'm assuming it was a hit!

Easy Beef Strogonoff

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2004
To make this a better stroganoff, spice up the ground beef with your favorites, use 8 ounces (1 cup) of sour cream, add a bit of worcestershire sauce and a couple tablespoons of ketchup before adding the sourcream. A simple stroganoff doesn't taste the same to me without ketchup.

Can't Get Enough Caramel Cookies!

I learned the hard way that you CAN'T use GENERIC oats- use name brand or you will have a crumbly mess! With name brand oats, this is wonderfully addictive!

Easy Red Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2004
This tasted great! My husband, daughter and I all really enjoyed it. I would definitely double the rice next time though. I used smoked sausage, and made the recipe exactly as written, except for a tiny pinch of red pepper flakes for a "kick".

A Good Easy Garlic Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2004
This is definitely easy and good! I read some of the reviews and used a couple of suggestions. I pounded the chicken breasts flat. I just sprinkled a bit of seasoned salt and garlic powder over them, so it wouldn't be overly salty. I didn't have onion powder. I added a half a handful of frozen chopped onion and a teaspoon of minced garlic to the melted butter, per another reviewers suggestion. It flavored the butter, which added extra flavor to the chicken. I drizzled the flavored butter over the chicken when I served it and it was so good! I served with rice pilaf and veggies. My husband, daughter and I all loved it!

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2005
The flavor of this is great! Like many others here, I didn't have a packet of taco seasoning when I needed it so checked here. I'm so glad I did! I mixed all the seasonings together in a plastic bag, cutting the amount of chili powder and red pepper flakes in half, and using regular salt instead of sea salt. I added the entire amount of seasoning to a pound of ground beef that had just been browned along with a 1/2 cup of water. I mixed very well and allowed to cook on medium stiring occassionally for about 10 minutes. Next time though, I will completely omit the red pepper flakes. Even using only 1/8 of a teaspoon has left my mouth on fire.

Very good. I followed the recipe to a tee, except for adding some fresh minced garlic with the onion. Had a good flavor. It's a keeper. :-)

Scrambled Egg Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2007
I had to bring an egg dish to MOPS today and didn't have a lot of time. These egg muffins were a HIT, and SO easy to make. People were asking how I made them. The muffins weren't "pretty", but they were good. :) (I used bacon instead of sausage, and Tastefully Simple Onion Onion instead of actual onion. Left the green pepper out because not everyone likes green pepper.) It was really good!
