J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2009
First of all, I haven't rated a recipe so low before. With all these rave reviews, I thought I was on to something. The biscuits came out of the oven looking good. But had a bland floury taste. I've had, made and tasted better will not be making again. We ate it with honey butter didn't help.

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2009
Family loved them. i only added 1 cup white sugar and 1 cup brown sugar, turned out perfect. I also swirled some peanut butter on top of batter and added some chocolate chips on top, as well. I also added walnuts on 1/2 the batter. (I don't particulary care for walnuts) My husband and kids loved it. Old fashioned taste, did not taste like anything from a box. Came out thick. Everyone could only eat one, very dense. First time I had leftovers. Made 12 good size brownies.

Blooming Onion and Dipping Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2009
Excellent. I did do the bloomin' part. Just stick to the petals and it is just as good and tasty. For the sauce I didn't haven any horseradish, so I left it out, it wasn't missed. Make sure you season up your flour really well. That's the flavor you are going to have.

Mall Pretzels

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2009
Forget the baking soda water. I tried that years ago and never cared for it. Last night, I just didn't feel like doing it. It wasn't missed. Everyone loved the pretzels. None were left! I used garlic salt, parmesan, butter, honey butter, salt and cinnamon sugar as different toppings for the pretzels. Loved it! Will definitely make again.

Simple Scones

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2009
Excellent! I skipped all the grating and kneading. I just threw everything into my Kitchen Aid, except egg and sour cream. Had it on low cycle until it resembled course crumbs. Add dried cherries, egg and sour cream. Mixed until all combined. I had to put it on high for a few seconds to make sure the egg was incorporated. Plopped it by the spoonful onto the cookie sheet. Delicious, none left, didn't even have time to take a picture. Oh so moist!!

Beer Batter for Fish

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2009
Pretty good. Took earlier advice and added more beer to 2 servings. Added tons of old Bay seasoning - probably 3 tbsp. wasn't overseasoned at all. Used a/p flour with xtra cornstarch. Cut up two mahi mahi fillets. Very tasty and still had batter left over. Cooked more like 6-7 minutes to get extra crispy crust.

Fortune Cookies I

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2009
This was my first time. I took other reviewer's advice and reduced the sugar a little. I quatrupled the recipe. Came out pretty good. Since I kept switching baking sheets, as one cooked I started another, I could see a difference in quality. I sprayed the baking sheet with butter spray. My darker pan cooked them faster. My lighter pan a bit slower. I got to the point that I just kept them in the shape of a cookie, I had so many. Also the batter should be thin and when I poured the batter on the sheet I did it in a circular motion without touching the pan, this eliminated the need to tilt the pan to form a circle. All in all the kids liked them.

Marshmallow Fondant

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2009
Very Easy to make. I used my Kitchen Aid Mixer with the bread hook and let it do the work. I used other reviewers recommendation of spraying butter flavored pam in the bowl the marshmallows were to be melted in, the hook for my mixer and the mixing bowl. Cleanup was less than 5 minutes. It tasted great. We rolled it thin.
