Made this with a few variations. Use chicken stock instead of water, added 1/2 C of white wine, oregano, sage, cumin, salt and pepper. I also added carrots at the beginning and then about and hour before I served I add fresh shelled peas and fresh snapped green beans that I had bought from the farmers market. Put dumplings in 2+hours before end of cook time. Family loved it, I oh the other had did not care for the "dumplings". Next time I make this soup I will use my homemade dumpling recipe instead. I gave it 5 stars because my family LOVED it. Good base recipe.
