BBQ Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2014
Very good! I put it in a 9x13, and the crust did cover it. However, the crust was thin enough that it was done in 30 minutes, so cooking time will depend on the size of your dish. I would like to try it with green pepper and maybe corn inside. Thanks for a great recipe!

The Best Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Reviewed: May 18, 2013
So many of these reviews are based on major changes, but I don't think this recipe needs changes. It is really good as written. To me it is comfort food meets sweet and sour. I do suggest that you flavor the ground beef to your personal taste. A hint for keeping your meatballs from falling apart: When you are rolling them, don't force any onions into the meatball. Let the excess onions fall into the bowl as you roll the meatballs, and that will give you a good consistency. I didn't have any problems with them falling apart. We will definitely be making this again!

Chocolate Scotcheroos

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2012
This is the same recipe that my mom has used for years. They came out great, but I do like to use a whole 12 oz bag of both the chocolate chips and butterscotch chips. I scoop the rice krispie mixture into the pan with a wooden spoon and then use the flat side to beat it flat and even. Gets out your frustration too :)

Turkey Burrito

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2012
Such a unique recipe, and so good! My husband and I doubted this even as we were making it. We considered serving it over rice, but decided to go ahead with the original recipe. I didn't have any leftover stuffing, and since it all has to boil anyways, we put the stuffing in dry and added the celery that we would have put in it. Didn't add the jalapenos on top, but put lots of black pepper inside. We also used half the broth, and liked that consistency - I can't say if more broth would have been too much. With half, these were kind of the consistency of a creamy bean and cheese burrito. I wish we had more leftovers to make these again!

Mexican Turkey

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2012
This was a really nice way to use some leftover turkey. We added a little cumin and taco seasoning for added flavor. Next time I think I would add more tomato and let it simmer down.

Apple Harvest Pound Cake with Caramel Glaze

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2012
This cake turned out beautiful, and everyone liked it. The glaze was nice and thick, after cooling for a minute or so and slowly spooning it on. For me though, the cake had way too much oil, and I even cut it to 1 cup. I could taste the oil in the finished cake and on my tongue afterwards. The glaze is amazing though, and no one else mentioned tasting the oil. This is a recipe that is a good base for me to try to tweak.

Turkey Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2012
Just made this with some of our leftover turkey, and I'm regretting not doubling it! I chopped the ingredients since I don't have a food processor, and substitued white vinegar for apple cider vinegar. I also added some black pepper. Very good, and a great way to use leftovers when you want a totally different taste than your Thanksgiving dinner the day before. I tasted this immediately and it was great, and we'll be eating it in sandwiches in an hour. I will make again and wait the 8 hours.

Pretty Chicken Marinade

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2012
This was amazing! We used all ingredients as instructed, but we did marinade it for about 24 hours. The chicken was juicy and so flavorful. I haven't been to Cask 'n' Cleaver restaurant in about 10 years, but it instantly reminded me of the chicken I used to order there. Don't doubt the liquid smoke - when we first mixed it we were worried it would be too strong, but once the chicken was grilled and ready to go, the liquid smoke was just the right amount.

Brown Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2012
The cookie itself is probably a four star recipe, but the icing recipe seems off. It is really, really sweet, and is a little too runny. Although, that is where you will taste the most brown butter. You should expect more of brown sugar taste from the cookie, but a brown butter taste from the icing.

Oatmeal Shortbread

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2012
I did not add a thing to these, and they are so good! My husband loved them as well. The only mistake I made was taking them out too early. At 25 minutes, the edges had browned nicely, so I took them out. The middle wasn't quite as crispy as it should be, and the edges actually could have stayed in longer. Trust the recipe as is!

Not nearly enough kick. I ended up doubling all the spices and butter and then still splashing more worcesterchire sauce.

Taco Pie

This is a good one. I have also made it with an Italian flavor - ground beef or sausage, onions, marinara, parmesan cheese and mozzarella cheese.

Oatmeal Cakes

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2012
I can not speak for the recipe contributor, but I wonder if the amount of milk was copied correctly. I found that 1 cup worked much better than one half. I made one cake with the amount called for, but added about half a cup more for the remaining cakes. I did not have applesauce, so I used olive oil. I think these would be perfect with 1 T. olive oil and 1 T. applesauce, but that might be a preference. I also cooked these in a little bacon grease and salted one side as they were cooking to add to the savory flavor. I will probably make again, but continue to tweak it a bit. I find it's always helpful to do a test run and then tweak the recipe to your own taste. I am breastfeeding, so I'm always looking for new recipes with oatmeal. This has a lot of potential for a great savory way to eat it.

Spaghetti Carbonara II

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2012
We made this once as is, and once with an over-easy egg on top with a little added Italian seasoning in the olive oil. My husband enjoyed it with the egg on top but didn't like it as much as written. We might just be used to American-ized Italian food. It was a little bland for our tastes.

Milly's Oatmeal Brownies

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2012
These were good, but not as sweet as i expected. They tasted like a healthy oat bar that you would eat for breakfast. Several people in the group really liked them and others thought they needed to be sweeter. I added about a cup and a half of chocolate chips.

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2012
Because I didn't have cream of tartar, I substituted white vinegar as another viewer suggested. They turned out perfectly! These were delicious - slightly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Butterscotch Oatmeal

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2012
This is called Butterscotch Oatmeal - expect it to be sweet! I made it exactly as written, and it was very good and very creamy. The portion sizes are about right for how sweet it is. I have also made this with half the sugar and added a little cinnamon and maple flavoring, and that is good as well. I've made it without the egg, and it's good, but just not quite as creamy and filling. As written, it has a very mild butterscotch taste, but don't expect a butterscotch chip type taste.

Gooey Brownies with Shortbread Crust

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2012
My husband and I loved these! I wouldn't change a thing! Except I'm impatient, so I did not allow the shortbread to cool before the next step. They turned out great. Ingredients and cooking times were right on.
