I'm a 30-something financial professional living in North Texas. I am always on the lookout for new and interesting (preferably healthy-ish) recipes to try for myself, as well as different quick and easy weeknight meals that are appealing to my finicky family.
My favorite things to cook
Anything that my family and friends appreciate, nothing makes me feel more warm and fuzzy than preparing a satisfying meal for people I love.
My favorite family cooking traditions
At holidays, I love to make my Mom's "Plum Good Cake" (a spice bundt with.. get this.. two jars of plum baby food in the batter, and a yummy lemon glaze), and "Sweet Potato Souffle" which is basically a mousse-textured yam casserole with a cinnamony butter-pecan streusel topping. YUM-O!
My cooking triumphs
Ooooh I get to brag, ok! Friends and family literally BEG me to be in charge of the turkey (and the gravy) every year. I don't do anything special to the bird, really... just give it a good herb-butter massage under and over the skin, and cram inside a mixture of rough-chopped onions, garlic (two whole heads!), and oranges. And I make chunky giblet gravy, the way my Mama taught me (with fine-chopped hard boiled eggs in it).
My cooking tragedies
I have ruined more than my share of expensive cuts of steak. I don't grill, and I'm too impatient to babysit a steak on the stovetop or under the broiler. I'm a "peek, stir, and walk away" kinda cook. Thank the Goddess for kitchen timers and crockpots!
