Cod with Italian Crumb Topping

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2010
Loved this!!! I think this may be my hubby's new favorite fish recipe. He was still complimenting me on it two days after I made it. Made it as is, I don't rate recipes I change, because then it's not the recipe, lol.

Turkey Tenderloins

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2010
Made this as is, with the exception of marinating time. We only let it sit for about 20 minutes in the marinade and it was still wonderful. Very flavorful and easy to make. The kids all had seconds. Will be keeping this one in my recipe box for a long time!

Oatmeal and Wheat Flour Blueberry Pancakes

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2009
Great base recipe. I added a tbl of vanilla and some flaxseed, because I add flaxseed to everything. I used cinnamon applesauce in place of the oil and one egg plus one white. The texture was great, the entire family likes them! Doubled the recipe to freeze.

Laura's Unbelievable Chicken and Pasta

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2009
This is a great recipe. Easily adapted to family tastes or what's on hand. I used fresh spinach, vegetable broth and added some garlic, basil and lemon juice. I also used half of the chicken and twice the tomatoes. I used low fat cream cheese and whole wheat pasta. I'm sure this recipe is great as is, I just changed it to use what I had on hand and meet my family's tastes. Thanks for sharing!

Whole Wheat Beer Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2008
I was not expecting this to be as good as it is!!! Made this to accompany a roast on Christmas, as an "extra". It is FABULOUS! I will be making this once a week. Would make a great hostess gift too, mix the dry ingredients in a nice container, throw in a mix of bottled brews and a pretty card with the directions! Thanks for this new addition to my keeper recipes!

Spiral Pasta Salad

This was a huge hit with my family and several members don't usually care for pasta salads. I made it exactly as the recipe states and it was perfect!

Eclair Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2008
Amazingly easy, inexpensive and delicious! I am not a big fan of reviews that reinvent recipes but I would like to suggest a few things. Using french vanilla cool whip made the filling even more vanilla custard like. Also, we heated the chocolate frosting slightly in the microwave and only used half a can, but that's personal preference. My 15 year old made this, with a little help but her cooking skill is NOVICE, for Christmas, with rave reviews from everyone.

Baked Apple Pudding

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2008
My family LOVES this!!! I got the recipe out of a Best of Country Cooking 1999 and we've been enjoying it since. This is a wonderful winter time treat. Golden raisins, other nuts, or none at all, and dried cranberries have been some of the variations we've tried. This never lasts long enough to cool off at our house, enjoy!

Cocktail Meatballs

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2005
Great meatball recipe for a party, even the kids loved these. I will probably make them again soon just for them. Please be cautioned when reading one star reviews for this. Some people can't say nice things about anything and if you go on to read the other reviews they have written you will see that. This really is a great little recipe.

Apple Snack Squares

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2005
This recipe is strikingly similar to one from a favorite cookbook of mine, the only differnces are this one adds the vanilla and calls for 1 cup of butterscotch and the cookbook version calls for 3/4 cup. I have made this (the cookbook's way) many, many times and always get asked for the recipe. The batter is very thick, dough like and can easily fool you into thinking you forgot to add something, lol. Kids love this, and even friends who've said they don't like butterscotch loved these bars. They also pack well for picnics and potlucks.

Hot Fudge Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2005
This is my favorite hot fudge cake recipe and I have tried many. I originally found this in an old church cookbook when I was in high school. I like it because it's wickedly sweet and I always have the ingredients on hand. We were snowed in this weekend and the kid's had friends spend the night, this was the perfect activity/treat for them and I didn't have to worry about trying to run to the store. We had it served in glass ice cream cups with skim milk on the bottom, the cake and sauce spooned on top and it was a great alternitive to topping it with whipped cream or ice cream, since we were out of both. A wonderful dessert for family dinners, company or something kids can make with little help.

Good 100% Whole Wheat Bread

Love this bread! We don't eat many sandwhiched on bread, usually rolls, but I did make PB&J french toast with this and it was wonderful! This is a great loaf you can throw together quickly to acompany dinner, we have it with homemade soup or pasta dishes often. Thanks flute!

Baked Oatmeal II

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2005
This is a good basic recipe. Lots of changes can be made to suit your tastes. I like the texture of this, we scoop it into bowls and pour milk over it. I add some milled flax seed for the nutrional value and it gives it a slightly nutty flavor. It's also great with chopped apples and raisins. I also put this in the crockpot on low for 3 hours during one of my kid's snow days last week, they got to go sled while breakfast was cooking and it turned out great, a little more moist than in the oven.

Slow Cooker Chicken Cacciatore

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2005
Super simple, super yummy! Made this for dinner and it disappeared! I also gave the recipe to my best friend who made it the night after I did, to rave reviews from her family. My clan won't eat mushrooms, so sadly I could not include them, but it was still delish. I also added more garlic and used dried minced onion, as hubby won't eat the good fresh kind. I also used a jar and a half of sauce, as we are big sauce fans. Still, I'm sure the recipe would be great as given, my adjustments were per my family's tastes, not because I thought the recipe needed adjusting. Thanks Rosie!

Maple Apple Crisp

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2005
I should've read more of the reviews before trying this. It was OK. I added nutmeg and cinnamon and I still could've added more, as well as nuts or some flax seed for a nuttier taste. The butter is too much as well, the apples got too soft during baking. This is a good basic recipe, I liked the maple flavor but next time I will use less syrup, much more topping and less butter, as well as adding some spices and nuts. Thanks for the recipe, it's a good starting point.

Strawberry Pretzel Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2005
Thank you Jen! I've been looking for this recipe, had it a few years ago at a church dinner and lost the recipe I got at the time. I love that it's made with things most of us keep on hand, easy enough for young, aspiring cooks to make and it's really pretty enough for company.

Burrito Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2005
Love this, made it first a few months ago and have made it again, altering it as to what I had in the house. Last time I used shredded chicken cooked up with some taco seasoning and used black beans instead of refried, love it both ways. I also used corn tortillas with the chicken instad of flour and it was still great. Thanks for the recipe!

Navy Bean Soup I

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2005
I made this in the crockpot set on low and cooked it over night. I didn't add the onion, bouillon, or bay leaf (didn't have them on hand) and it was still awesome!!! The kids ate it up like mad after playing in the snow all day. Served it with five grain bread mini loaves and it was a filling meal. Cheap to make too, which this SAHM is very thankful for. Great recipe, thanks a bunch!!!

Chocolate Covered Cherry Cookies II

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2005
Thank you Jamie!!!! My late mother in law made these cookies as part of her Christmas baking every year. She gave me the recipe years ago and it was somehow lost in one of our moves while my husband was in the army. I cried when I discovered I no longer had it and was so happy to find the recipe. My 11 year old made these this Christmas and we all made ourselves sick eating them, lol. They are wonderful and exactly as I remember with the exception of putting the frosting on before baking. My MIL always put it on after they came out of the oven and that is probably how I'll do it next year, just for the sake of doing it the way she did, they were still great with the frosting baked on. Thanks again for posting this recipe!!!
