Flax and Sunflower Seed Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2012
Scrumptious, hearty, healthy bread! This is a great recipe. One thing I did was substitute whole wheat bread flour with rolled oats. I did so because I was out of whole wheat bread flour, but I must say that it was an excellent substitution and gave even more texture and taste. Yum!

Couscous with a Kick!

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2011
I made this recipe just as specified, and it was delicious! I love spicy food, and I didn't find the kick to take away from the flavor at all. It was perfect, and I'll make this again for sure.

Restaurant Style Mango Lassi

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2009
This was very good, though I read previous reviewers' comments and went with a very ripe mango instead of cans of mango pulp. I also used less than half the ice and it was delicious and refreshing.

Gomen Wat

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2009
This recipe was delicious and healthy, though it didn't quite have the flavor that I expected. I added more ginger root and some hot sauce, and omitted the salt, and it was perfect. YUM!

Fiery Fish Tacos with Crunchy Corn Salsa

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2009
Scrumptious recipe! I didn't use salt but did add black beans and scallions to the crunchy corn salsa as well as melted shredded cheese (mexican blend) to the tortilla. I also sautéed the fish in a little butter instead of olive oil and just added the cayenne and black pepper while sautéing, and it stuck just fine. Yum!

The Best Vegetarian Chili in the World

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2009
This recipe is delicious! I appreciate the recipe creator adding information about the canned tomatoes, but I used fresh roma tomatoes instead of canned. I also cut back on the chili powder and omitted salt and olive oil (instead combining all ingredients in one pot rather than sautéeing them in oil first), but since I like things very spicy added a fresh habañero pepper to the jalapeño. I also added fresh cilantro. I have lots of leftovers but will be making this again soon!

Guacamole

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2008
I normally modify recipes quite a bit, but this one was very good as written. Thanks! However, I like things spicy, so I added a fresh jalapeno, and it kicked up the flavor much more to my liking. I also strongly recommend growing or buying fresh, local tomatoes, cilantro, onions, and avocados as it REALLY makes a difference in the flavor. Yum!

Insalata Caprese II

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2007
This is a delicious, refreshing, and simple recipe to make. The key is fresh ingredients, so I recommend buying local tomatoes and basil. Also, to add flavor, I diced my basil and added a little oregano and balsamic vinegar to the platter. It was a hit! Mmmm.

Pizza Dough I

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2007
This was a nice, simple recipe, but the pizza turned out a little doughy. Like many other reviewers, I had to add a little water to the recipe, but next time I will take the advice of others and dissolve the yeast and sugar in the warm cup of water, let the dough rise for 20 minutes, and pre-bake the dough for about 8 minutes before adding the toppings and cooking.

LuvAnn's Guacamole

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2007
Wonderful, simple recipe. For those people desiring less spicy food, try de-seeding the jalapenos. If you like spicy (like I do), then the recipe is perfect just the way it is. :) This is coming from someone who almost always modifies recipes to make them taste better. Not this one...mmmm!

Holly's Smoked Salmon Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2007
Because I didn't have some of the ingredients in the house that I thought I had, I changed the recipe just a bit, substituting the blue cheese dressing with a light olive oil Italian dressing, and adding some capers and dill. I also used feta cheese and mixed it and the other ingredients throughout the pasta instead of just topping it. Yum!

Butternut Squash Soup II

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2006
This was delicious, though after reading other reviews, I made some modifications. I used 6 small red potatoes instead of the regular potato. I also doubled the carrots and celery and added 2 red bell peppers, 2 spicy fresh peppers, 2 Tbsp. fresh ginger root, 2 Tbsp. fresh garlic, 2 Tbsp. mango chutney, 1 tsp. nutmeg. I used a hand mixer in the pot to save a couple of steps and a mess, and it worked great. I added 2 Tbsp. low fat cream cheese to add some creaminess, and stirred it in to melt it. I froze half of what I made, and shared the rest with happy friends. I will definitely make this again!

Banana Peanut Butter Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2006
WOW! I just tried this recipe today for the first time, and it far exceeded my expectations! Like others, I made modifications based on my own likings and my desire to make it a little more healthy, plus to add things I had in the house. I also decided to make them in muffin form with the following substitutions: 1/2 cup low fat crunchy peanut butter, 1/2 cup white sugar, and I omitted walnuts since I had crunchy peanut butter. I also replaced half the butter with 1/4 cup of applesauce. I made 12 muffins and they were perfect in 30 minutes. I have eaten 2 already, one warm out of the oven and one cooled. Yum!

Mediterranean Chickpea Salad I

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2006
Great recipe! I followed the previous rater's suggestions of adding fresh tomatoes (roma) and olives. It added quite a bit of flavor. I also used gorgonzola cheese instead of feta and added a little fresh pesto sauce.

Wonderful Chicken Curry Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2006
This was delicious, though I did make some substitutions. I didn't have pecans, so I used sesame seeds. I didn't have grapes (though I know it would have been delicious with them), so I cut up and added fresh avocado and mango which complimented the mango chutney very well. I also added fresh cilantro, thai basil, and a little mint...and I cut the mayonnaise in half. Finally, I subtituted scallions for the onions. YUM!

Kickin' Collard Greens

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2006
This was a great recipe for delicious collard greens I bought from a local farmer. I used low sodium chicken broth and added water to help with the sodium, and I doubled the garlic and used turkey bacon to make it a little healthier. I prefer my collard greens a little spicier, so I added quite a bit more red pepper flakes and some hot sauce. Yum! Thanks for this delicious recipe.

Eggless Whole Wheat Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2006
Like the other reviewers, I tweaked the recipe, and it was great. I didn't have whole wheat flour, so I used white flour plus I added rolled oats, 2 peeled, cored, and diced apples, 1/4 cup fresh honey, and 1/8 cup canola oil, as well as a little extra cinnamon and some dried cranberries. Thanks to the person who provided this recipe for giving me the inspiration to try an eggless muffin for the first time. You really couldn't tell it was eggless! I shared with friends and co-workers, and everyone loved it.

Slow Cooker Pork Chops II

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2006
This recipe was great! For extra tenderness and a little different flavor, I added a can of cranberries and some cognac. I cooked both boneless and bone-in chops on low in the crock pot for 6 hours. They were wonderful and tender...a big hit with my guests! Thanks for this delicious recipe.

Slow Cooker BBQ Pork Chops

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2005
This was a very good recipe for moist and flavorful pork chops. After reading other reviews, I added water and onions, and I agree that picking an excellent sauce makes all the difference in the world. I used a homemade spicy sauce then served it with the succulent pork chops over rice with peas.

Mexican Spiced Turkey Tortilla Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2005
This recipe makes delicious soup! I used only 2 boullion cubes to cut down on sodium, and I substituted fresh diced jalapenos for the can of green chilies. I also added a can of dark kidney beans and 2 Tbsp. recaito, then garnished with fresh scallions. I skipped the chips to make it a little healthier. YUM!
