I am 43, married since I was 20. I have one son who is 20. I was born and raised in San Diego and was a true city girl. Spent my youth drinking, dancing, and surfing. I moved to Tucson six years ago and have become a homebody. Im a nurse by trade but really enjoy growing veggies, raising chickens, sewing, crochet, canning, and now cooking. My friend gave me a kitchenaid mixer and since then, I have gotten pretty good at baking bread, cookies, cakes, etc. I have been doing some candy melt thingies and decorating with icing lately. I take most of my creations to work. This is where I get some good criticism and they love to eat things until I get it exactly right. I am now more interested in learning how to cook the perfect steak and reducing.
My favorite things to cook
Monkey bread is easy and always a hit. I also like to make lumpia and variations of it with egg roll wrappers. I made a variation using scrambled eggs, cheese, onion, and sausage in egg roll wrap. Now they beg for it at work. I really need to work on pie crusts and perfecting knish dough
My favorite family cooking traditions
I didnt really have any growing up. My husband likes magic cookie squares at thanksgiving and christmas brew. He is a great cook but very messy.
My cooking triumphs
perfiterols with orange chantilly cream and chocolate ganache. monkey bread and lumpia. barbacoa.
My cooking tragedies
I once used salt instead of sugar for sugar cookies. My husband thinks most of my cooking is a tragedy and he says I still shop like Im in college.
