About this Cook
I am a retired cross country truck driver who run team with my husband of 36 years. I have a passion for anything "kitchen" and dearly love to cook. Our friends wrangle an invitation to come and eat and when the food is gone leave. And I am constantly being asked to prepare one thing or another for any type of gathering, so I guess I am a good cook. Or at least that is what I am told. I spend hours in the kitchen just for the joy of it and working on new recipes that are tasty and easy to prepare. Five ingrediants or less is my favorite motto. I juat don't believe in fast food or going out to eat as I can most of the time do better in my kitchen. So, like we tell everyone, come on over and sit down, it's time to eat.
My favorite things to cook
It is hard to say the one thing I like to cook. As I like to cook, bake, grill,& open fire; just any way to put a good healthy, tasty meal on the table. But to cook, I guess it would be a one pan casserole. To Bake any type of fruit cobbler. To grill, fish or steaks Open fire, Pinto beans and biscuts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
As I was born and raised in Texas, by a native Texas Dad and a Louisiania mom, our traditions are country style with a kick. (Hot Sauce) In the summer, getting outside under the pecan tree and BBQing with all the family gathered round the old picnic table in my backyard. Fall and Winter, all gathered at the table giving thanks for ham and grits; trukey & cornbread dressing. Each family member has a favorite dish so there is always a great selectin of wonderful dishes.
My cooking triumphs
I have won several local cooking contests and 2 bake offs. But my hubby is more proud of this than I am. Fact is he had to goad me into getting involved as I was just to embaressed in front of all the strangers.
My cooking tragedies
Too much garlic in a casserole I made once. My husband said there was not a werewolf within a 100 mile radius!!

Best Ever Cinnamon Buns
This recipe just replaced my old stand-by for "sticky buns"! These are easier to make and taste better than any I have ever had. The only thing different was I added a pinch of ground clove to the cinnamon sugar. I will defintly make again next weekend for a family get together.

Bacon Jack Chicken Sandwich
This a great quick diner. I added thinly sliced ripe alvacado to this sandwich and it really made this awsome. I also cut the bacon slices in half and place them in a cooking rack onto a foiled lined cookie sheet and baked the bacon in the oven at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes or until crisp and golden brown. Removed and drained onto paper towls. I have found this cuts the grease in half. As for condiments, I spread each side of the bun with a small amount of Ranch dressingfor my sandwich and my husband used honey mustard on his. Both where YUMMY. This is defintly one we will prepare again.

Slow Cooker Turkey Breast
This is a great recipe for small gathering at Thanksgiving. I do a bit of modificatins by 1 tablespoon soft butter rubbed under the skin and on top of the breast. I put 1-2 cups good dry white wine in the bottom of the slow cooker with 2-3 chopped carrots , 3 ribs celery and 1 medium onion. FYI: If you would not drink the wine then I would not use it in my cooking.
