About this Cook
I am a mother of 2 grown children and the grandmother of two adorable little boys. My daughters little guy is 3 and my sons big boy is 5. I am very active in my church. We have a lot of pot luck dinners. I am always getting new ideas from that. I babysit my youngest grandson. We have a blast together. I also volunteer for older seniors who no longer drive. I will take them on errands and to Dr appts. I love them. They are our history and there are so many good stories to hear. I also love to garden and grow flowers. It is real therapy for me to work with the soil and to see the "fruits" of my labor. I competed in ballroom dance for quite a few years and was able to travel all over the country to compete. It was so much fun and the people I met from all over the world were so interesting. I worked as an accountant for 45 years and decided it was time to hang up my calculator. Now I am retired and loving it.
My favorite things to cook
For many years I cooked for large numbers of people (20+). After my husband and I divorced the numbers dropped drastically. But I still like to cook for friends and my small family. One of my favorite things to cook is prime rib. I have a "killer" recipe which makes the roast turn out medium rare every time. I like to grill outside during the summer and that involves all kinds of foods from fish to vegetables. I like my food well seasoned and always am trying new homemade rubs and marinades for the meats or fish. I am not much of a baker. I do make the pumpkin pie and other goodies at Christmas. I try not to have baked goods around because I will eat them and I don't want to ruin my "girlish" figure. lol. I make a stupendous lasagna. Every one who eats it wants to know my secret but I will keep that quiet for now. I also love cooking fresh vegetables new and different ways.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Prime Rib for Christmas dinner, roast pork with stewed apples for Easter and lasagna for Christmas Eve. I also have a great recipe for smoked beef brisket. It is a family secret passed down through several generations. I will reserve that recipe for later.
My cooking triumphs
My famous green chili stew. I won first place in our office chili cook off 3 years in a row (from 25 to 30 entrants).
My cooking tragedies
I was making green chili enchiladas for a small Cinco de Mayo dinner party. This was way back "when". Because I didn't pre fry the corn tortillas, they melted into a green chili chicken casserole. It tasted okay but I was so disappointed. But that was over 30 years ago and I have learned to make them like they are supposed to be made. My family loves them.

Georgia's Tennessee Jam Cake
I hate to tell you this but my grandmother made that exact same cake more than 60 years ago in Arkansas. I don't know where she got the recipe but I have it and I have loved it all these years including the black walnuts.
