Grandman Pork Chops and Rice

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2004
This "soupy" rice mixture complimented the pork chops. The meal was good, but not great. It's a quick middle-of-the-week type of recipe.

Sweet and Sour Meatloaf

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2004
The sweet and sour taste of this moist meatloaf is not typical, yet it's not special either. Nothing about this meatloaf stands out positively or negatively. If you like meatloaf, you'll like it. If you don't like meatloaf, you won't.

Insanely Easy Vegetarian Chili

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2004
This was delicious! We enjoyed it the first day and then again as leftovers. I added a can of black beans to the recipe and served it with shredded cheese (Four Cheese Mexican Blend) and sour cream. We added a salad and breadsticks and had a delicious and hearty meal.

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2004
Although we ate this two nights in a row, we've enjoyed other meatloaf recipes much more. This one was a bit too sweet and nothing about it stood out as extra special. We did, however, enjoy the second day leftovers more than the first time around.

Baked Chicken with Peaches

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2004
We liked this recipe very much and didn't think it was too sweet. There was a nice balance between the sweetness and the spices, but it was sweet enough to satisfy my husband's sweet tooth. Since I made it in the winter when fresh peaches were not available, I used canned peaches in light syrup. I agree with other reviewers that I would have liked more peaches as they really enhanced the dish.

African Curry

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2003
Although this recipe wasn’t difficult to prepare, it required a lot of time watching the pan on the stove. It smelled delicious while I was preparing it, but the result was rather disappointing. The curry was on the bland side. This dish could be improved if vegetables are added. At present, the dish is only chicken in a bland curry. It lacks taste and texture. I served the chicken and curry over rice, which soaked up the sauce and added texture, but did not alter its essential blandness. It wasn’t terrible, but it needed something extra.

Linguine and Clam Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2003
My husband and I decided that this dish was good enough that it would not have been out of place if served at a solid Italian restaurant. I added a little white wine and lemon juice to the sauce (while it was simmering) to great effect. The lemon juice gave the sauce a little pizzazz. The overall effect was a sauce that had many distinct flavors without being overpowering. Next time I might add some more clams -- possibly whole clams. This quality pasta recipe promises to be a regular at our dinner table.

Breaded Parmesan Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2003
This recipe was fairly ordinary. It had that “straight from the box” taste. The taste of stuffing dominated the meal. We love parmesan and were disappointed that the taste wasn’t more prominent. We cannot recommend this dish.

Emily's Famous Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2003
Emily’s Famous Sloppy Joes were delicious. The onions and peppers called for in the recipe give it texture and taste while the chili powder provides spice. There was a subtle sweetness to this sloppy joe (from the brown sugar). This meal was quick and easy to prepare, but it easily managed to retain its “homemade” taste. We put them on buns and ate them two nights in a row! Yummy!

Tantalizingly Tangy Meatloaf

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2003
The meatloaf was a success. Because I was unable to find pineapple preserves, I substituted apricot preserves. The sauce was very sweet. The meatloaf might have been better with a little less sauce. Overall, it was a delicious recipe. We ate leftovers the next night, which didn’t seem quite so sweet. My husband puts ketchup on EVERYTHING, but he passed this time. He said this meatloaf doesn’t need it. I will definitely make this recipe again.
