Hello everyone out there in Allrecipes Land :)
So happy to find out there is a blog feature and finally a way to communicate with other members! :)

My first question before I even attempt to start my food related blogs with pictures is:
Is there some secret trick to cropping pictures that I'm not getting?  I submit a smaller compressed picture, so it is not a huge file and the photo cropper will only stretch out up and down and a bit to the left and right, but never enough to include my whole photo. It's soooooooooo frustrating and I have tried uploading a smaller version and then the cropper will not allow me to adjust the size at all.  Maybe there is a trick to taking a smaller picture or closer/further away, etc.

Sorry to sound like a moron but this has frustrated me to no end tonight, attempting to upload a pic of the Worlds Best Lasagna and it will let me crop a little over half of it. Arghhhhh~!

Have a wonderful evening, everyone!

Angie :)

Hi Angie! The only thing I know of is to stop compressing your photo files. I usually load my pictures from my camera to my photo program (I have Picture It!, but Photoshop, Easyshare, anything will work), then I crop them to square, since that's the only way AR will format them. If they need to be rotated or anything I can also do that. Then you can just upload to AR and don't have to mess with their frustrating cropper so much. Anyway, I think it's the small files that are getting you bungled. Resize them on your computer and try again. Have you been on the Recipe Exchange here? You can talk all day to people and and questions like this - or about anything. The blog is nice, but you only get people that are into reading, so not nearly as much input if you are wanting a quick answer. Sorry this is so long - let me know if it works! Sunny :)

Gimp [it's like photoshop but free] It has a crop and size adjustment feature that will solve your problem. There are also a lot of online tutorials for it to teach you how to use all the features.

Thank you both so much for the information :) Now if I only didn't have to go to work and could concentrate on important things such as blogging tomorrow instead! :)

About Me
Cooking is one of my favorite past times (and of course, eating what I cook;) I live in Southern Michigan and have been married since 9/1997. No kids yet, husbands Grandmother lives with us and that's enough for now. Thank you members, for all your great contributions to this site!
My favorite things to cook
Main courses, bread maker breads, Mexican, Italian, Southern Style.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Canning tomato juice every year with my Mom and Grandma, at the time it seemed like a horrible chore, but what great things they have taught me! Also learning to make beans and cornbread and chocolate pies from my Grandmother.
My cooking triumphs
Mastering the dishes that my husband said he would never like, I have managed to get to him to try and enjoy everything besides bean soup and one of these days I'm going to manage to get him to try that, too! ;)
My cooking tragedies
Cooked a round steak for the first time in the crock pot after I was first married, and took the advice of the girls at work to leave it on HIGH for ten hours with no liquids. It had the consistency of rocks..and dh and his best friend still ate it to make me feel better, bless them! My inability to master dough of any kind, even if I start it in the bread machine. I really have issues with trying to manipulate pizza dough, biscuits, etc. Making hamburgers in a skillet for the first time and burning them into hockey pucks ( I was about 10 years old ) The dog wouldn't even eat them!
