Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2007
The flavor of this was awesome, but I will reduce cooking time in the future. I used 5lbs of chicken parts, and it was not as juicy as I'd like. BUT...it was not dry! I will try again.

Turkey Pot Pie III

This recipe tasted great! I ended up putting it all into one pie dish, and I added a bit of fresh thyme. Wonderful!

Snowballs II

Very good. My first ever successful homemade cookie. Added a bit more powdered sugar to the cookie mix and put the crushed candy cane in the final dusting. They taste great.

Urban Legend Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2007
I hate to leave a bad review but these cookies were not good. They were very dry, even cooking them for the least time. I followed the recipe exactly, but they aren't tasty.

Grandma Elaine's Unstuffed Sweet and Sour Cabbage

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
Hmmm...this recipe is pretty good. I am not sure it is worth 2.5 hours cooking time good though! According to one review, it tastes even better the next day. We'll see what tomorrow holds!

Carne Guisada III

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2007
I tried this recipe in the crock pot, and followed directions to the letter. I think my crock pot is on the large side, and I added water to cover the meat. I think it turned out a bit watery. I had never had "carne guisada" and wanted to try a new recipe for my Puerto Rican husband. It tastes like the good ol American version of beef stew, in my opinion.

Hearty Turkey Soup with Parsley Dumplings

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2007
Hmmm..I was really excited about this recipe, but I can only give it 3 stars. For starters, you need a bigger stock pot than 4 qts! I don't really understand the need to mix milk and the flour together to mix into soup. It didn't thicken the soup, in my opinion just clouded it! I think it had a bit too much pepper, and I messed up the dumplings. They were too doughy! However, I could still taste some goodness through it all. I will try this again...and maybe make a few changes.

Habichuelas Guisadas

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2007
Excellent beans. I have been trying to find a good, authentic recipe for my Puerto Rican husband and did not want to use anymore Goya sofrito! These beans tasted so fresh and the flavor was out of this world. I doubled the recipe and it was amazing. I used fivebrigs recipe for the sofrito also.

Sofrito

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2007
Delicious! The kitchen smelled wonderful while I was preparing this. I opened up a jar of store-bought sofrito just to compare the aroma~ the homemade stuff smelled incredible next to the jar. I used this in Fivebrigs recipe for habichuelas and puerto rican rice. Excellent!***a quick update. I just used some of the sofrito that I froze, and i do not find the flavor nearly as robust as the fresh!

Awesome Turkey Giblet Stock

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2007
This was first time making giblet stock. I followed the recipe exactly and used this stock for my gravy, which turned out wonderful! Will keep this basic recipe as a keeper for future use. **I just made this again this year. The stock was awesome for the Awesome Cranberry Sausage Stuffing recipe, but was too sweet for gravy. Will make again for stuffing though!

Perfect Turkey

By far the most moist turkey I have ever cooked. I stuffed the turkey also. This was my first time brining and it certainly makes a difference. I will always brine in the future!

Savory Turkey Gravy

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2007
This was the first successful gravy recipe I have tried. I brined the turkey the night before, so I prepared the stock the night before also using the neck and gizzards. I had 3 cups of turkey stock, 2 cups of pan dripping and one cup of broth. I followed the other ingredients exactly and it was very tasty! The pan drippings also included white wine using "Perfect Turkey" recipe from this site.

I was really excited about trying this recipe, but must say I was disappointed. I didn't like it and neither did my husband. It was "edible" but I will not make it again.

Sausage Casserole

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2007
This is a really great recipe. I have been making it for about 2 years now when I have guests. If you make it exactly as written it is a bit too much onion for my taste. I have been halving it a lot recently and it works perfect in a 9x9 square pan with 4 eggs and 8 oz cottage cheese, everything else halved. I also use powdered onion instead of shredded most times. Everyone asks for the recipe!
