Instant Russian Tea

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2003
A wonderful idea for small Christmas gifts. As the only large containers of instant tea I could find were sweetened, I reduced the sugar considerably (1/4 cup) and it still tastes great.

Grasshopper Cream Cheese Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2003
A nice variation on grasshopper pie. I made my own crust (2C chocolate wafer crumbs, 2T sugar, 6T melted margarine) in a springform pan. I only had one pkg (8 oz) cream cheese, but it still turned out fine.

Applesauce Bars

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2003
This simple recipe is easy and delicious. I don't keep pumpkin pie spice on hand, so I substituted 1/2t cinnamon, 1/4t nutmeg, and 1/4t cloves. I baked in a 9x9 pan so that I could use my convection oven, so the result was more cake-like than the original. Very tasty.

Make Ahead French Toast

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2003
Easy and delicious. Just right for a special occasion. If I make it for a typical breakfast, I will reduce the topping or try it with just maple syrup. The pecans were delicious. I did reduce the milk to 1/2 cup, and it was just right.

Cinnamon Griddle Cakes

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2003
The flavor was good, but we found these pancakes too heavy. My kids liked them more than my husband and I.

German Pancakes II

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2003
My mother used to make a similar recipe, and she baked it in two metal cake pans. So I divided the butter and the batter in half and made two round pancakes, and they tasted great. I baked at 375 degrees for 30 minutes.

Antipasto Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2003
Very good! The asiago cheese and salami were very nice additions. I left out the pepperoni since I had a bit extra salami. I mixed the dressing and added it the night before serving the salad for lunch.

Aunt Bert's White Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2003
This recipe makes a yellow cake--not a white cake--because it uses egg yolks rather than whole eggs. That said, the cake was moist and dense, but uninspiring. We ate it, it was fine, but I'll try something else next time.

Cuban Black Beans II

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2003
Flavorful and easy. I served it over brown rice with shredded Monterrey Jack cheese. Next time I'll reduce the water by 1 cup.
