Italian Wedding Soup I

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2009
With the exception of the following changes, I followed the recipe ... 1/2 lb. ground pork & 1/2 lb. ground veal in place of the ground beef; italian bread broken into very small peices instead of dry bread crumbs; 1/8 C. finely chopped onion & 1 tsp. minced garlic in place of the onion powder; 2 qts. of chicken stock; 3/4 C. acini di pepe (cooked first); 1 C. finely chopped carrot. I also browned the meatballs prior to adding to the soup.

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2007
I tried it for the first time this Thanksgiving. I covered it & baked it in the oven at 350 for 30 min., mixing and adding a bit of broth half way thru so the bottom would not be dry and then moved it to a chafing dish ... it was easy & everyone really liked it. Thank you.

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies II

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2007
These cookies tasted good & were very easy to make. I added 1/2 tsp. salt & substituted 1 cup of macadamia nuts & 1 cup chopped dark chocolate for the 2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips the recipe calls for. I made the dough the night before baking & refrigerated it. I think it would have been difficult to work with if not chilled. Thanks.

Even though I am not a big fan of ground beef, I have to say that this was good & everybody liked it. Thanks.

Delicious Raspberry Oatmeal Cookie Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2005
This is a good, easy dessert. I took the following advice of other reviewers: 1. greased the pan and omitted the foil altogether; 2. doubled the recipe (using a 9 X 13 pan); 3. added a 1/2 tsp. of cinnamon; and 4. used Smuckers 100% Fruit. I made it for a picnic and everybody seemed to really enjoy it. Thanks.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2005
I have always used the Nestle Tollhouse Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe on the back of the bag because it makes great cookies! These cookies are good ... no complaints, but I'll stick with the Nestle Tollhouse recipe!

Beef Tips

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2004
I followed the suggestions of other reviewers & omitted the salt & used a bit less soy sauce. Also, instead of the gravy mixture, I sifted all-purpose flour into heated beef broth, wisked it & then added that to the meat mixture. Everyone loved it ... even the toddlers!

Fluff Dip for Fruit

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2004
I think it could have used a bit more amaretto. My guests loved it though. I placed mine in a small bowl on a platter surrounded by fresh fruit. It looked like a huge bowl of, well, fluff. If I were to make it again, I'd serve it in a smaller, more shallow bowl & simply re-fill as needed.

Cha Cha's White Chicken Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2004
This is a good recipe. The longer it simmers the better the taste. I used 2+ cups of extra sharp cheddar cheese instead of monterey jack. As the recipe states, this is a spicy chili! For my husband, I would not need to change a thing. For myself & others, though, I will use a bit less of the peppers.

Vegan Black Bean Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2004
This is very easy to make & it tastes delicious! I used chicken stock in place of the vegetable broth & cooked it in my slowcooker (use less stock if you do it in the slow cooker). Don't forget the sour cream dollop when serving!

Stuffed Pepper Soup I

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2004
This recipe is so easy & makes a great meal for a cold day. I made a few alterations: I used a bit more than 2 lbs. of ground sirloin, 3 large green peppers, only a 1/2 tsp. salt & only 1 bouillon cube. Everyone I served it to loved it ... even kids.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: May 26, 2004
I prefer brownies without any frosting &, in the case of this recipe, I would certainly skip the frosting. The brownies are good & very easy to make; however, the frosting is terribly sweet.

Praline Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2003
I made this for the first time for Thanksgiving dinner this year & it was a big hit! I scaled the recipe for 9 servings & made only one adjustment based on another review ... I used 1/3 C. white sugar & 1/3 C. brown sugar in the potatoe mixture. It was sweet but not too sweet (which is the problem I have had with other people's sweet potatoe casserole dishes.) I will be sure to make this again for the holidays!

Melanie's Garden-Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2003
This was very simple and easy to make ... a great use of end of summer's garden fresh tomatoes and herbs! I thought the soup needed a bit more sugar than the recipe called for but it was still very good.

Mushroom Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2003
I guess this is really a matter of personal preference, but I didn't care for this recipe with pork ... perhaps we would have like it better had I used chicken or beef. The pork and creamy mushroom combination just didn't suit us.
