About this Cook
I have been cooking since I was 12. It started when, as a child, the family went camping, hiking and fishing. I spent 30 years cooking outdoors and amassed a collection of cast Dutch Ovens and Camp stoves and am able to cook most anything over a fire (and love it). I do however enjoy the air conditioning and am now learning the art of keep the kitchen clean as the meal progresses.
My favorite things to cook
I'm a certified BBQ judge and my grill has an axil and a tongue so... I enjoy smoking meats. I am in process of learning the art of Charcutiere.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up everything required one of two things....... Butter or Lard!!

Amusement Park Cornbread
OK, here's the thing. I liked it and I liked it alot but it was a tad bit cakey for me. I was disscussing the recipe with my mother and she (an old southern lady) said "it ain't cornbread 'less it has more cornmeal than flour". So..... I went to a 50/50 mix and I must say, for my taste I enjoyed IT a bit more. However, if you want a powerful corndog mix then back of the baking powder and ....Whoa Boy!!! It can't be beat.

Spinach and Strawberry Salad
I make it a point to try these recipes as written the first time, and then make my adjustments there after. Well, I didn't have regular vinagar and had already started so I used Balsamic in its place (making it an hour or so inadvance and fridging it). No other changes needed. Well Balanced, Light and oh so Flavorful!!! After the Wife's fourth bite she looked at me with a smile and said of this recipe "It's a keeper". Enough said!

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes
I grew up eating Betty's Boxed Au Graten. These are great. While the wife dosen't rave over food at all, I did notice her second round was larger than her first. This dish will be a regular at our dinner table from this point forward.
