About this Cook
I am in my early thirties with one daughter and another baby on the way. I am Puerto Rican, Italian and Irish, so my cooking is influenced by many different regions. I am married to a Dominican so I also borrow cooking influences from his mom.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking from cookies to cakes and pies. Lasagna and pasta is made frequently in my home and pizza has become a new fave to make here. Summertime is BBQ time and no one but me is allowed to touch my BBQ.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My great grandmother always made tomato sauce on Sunday, filled with meatballs or bracciole or sausage, letting it simmer from the early morning. I don't have a traditonal day for pasta but do make it once a week. I also like baking with my daughter just like my mom did, even if we use a box mix or ready to bake cookies.
My cooking triumphs
Making my daughter's first birthday cake an cooking my first full Thanksgiving meal when she was 1. I have now taken over Thanksgiving and always cook up a feast for friends and family on various occasions.
My cooking tragedies
My mother in law showed me how to make rice that didn't come in a bag and I cook it well......except for when she comes over. For some reason, if I know she is coming over the rice will be a disaster. It won't have the right texture or will be too salty (yuck!). I will find a way to ruin it somehow.

Restaurant-Style Buffalo Chicken Wings
These were incredible especially for my first time making hot wings. I added pepper, garlic and onion powder to the flour mixture. I refrigerated for 2 hours. I fried in my deep fryer till crisp, then drained on paper towels. I used Srirahcha hot sauce in the butter mix and topped the wings with the sauce and then gently mixed with a spoon to get them evenly coated. My hubby and friends said they were the best wings they had ever had!

Oatmeal Pie IV
I just recently returned from the Pennsylvania Dutch country and tried oatmeal pie, there, for the first time. I couldnt wait to try to make it at home. It is super easy, especially if you use a ready made pie crust, and delicious. This recipe is perfect. I added vanilla but I always add extra vanilla to baked goods. Make sure you cook it long enough so the top crisps up a bit. It really is reminiscent of pecan pie w a hint of coconut. Don't omit the coconut. It really adds depth to the pie.
