About this Cook
I'm a country girl and I enjoy trying new things. I like to say I like everything in general and nothing in particular. My pet peeve on this website is folks who criticize when it's obvious they've messed up the recipe. If you have 98% five star reviews and then you have someone come along and criticize, it's pretty obvious most of the time, they messed up. Then there are those that say it's too sweet or too fattening; the ingredients tell the tale. If you look at the ingredients in advance, you normally have a clue as to what the health content is going to be. I read through these reviews sometimes and I think of Thumper "if you can't say something good about something, don't say nothing at all". Constructive criticism is fine. But sometimes I think there are folks who want to be hateful. I believe we should LIVE WELL, LAUGH OFTEN AND LOVE MUCH!
My favorite things to cook
Baking is by far my favorite. I also like doing appetizers and pot luck dinner dishes. My husband thinks the Christmas time kitchen aroma is a must-have family tradition.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holiday cooking is the best! Lots of family and friends around sharing their favorite dishes. Church gatherings are always wonderful as well. Making cookies and "rock candy" with my Mom at Christmas are great memories as well as the special Easter eggs she made in peanut butter, maple nut, cherry nut and coconut. I learned to decorate with icing on those chocolate eggs! There is nothing like the sound of endless chatter and laughter around the table in a home. Thank God I experienced that everyday growing up as a child.
My cooking triumphs
I'm glad to say I've come a long way in my kitchen. Baking is the only area I would consider myself an expert. I'm learning to put together my own recipes and that's a triumph for me.
My cooking tragedies
I can't seem to get bread making or fudge recipes right. I failed the "NO FAIL FUDGE" recipe. Everyone was passing that recipe around and being successful with it, I never could get it to work for me. I knew it had to be me because everyone else was having success.

Simple Strawberry Sauce
Needed something quick and easy and this seemed to work almost instantly. I used Ideal sugar substitute instead of sugar and the strawberries and sauce were perfect over a slice of pound cake with a bit of whipped cream. Thank you!

Apple Oatmeal Crisp
I had no fresh apples so instead I used a 21 ounce can of apple pie filling. Put down first layer. Used a knife in the can to dice up the apple slices, then poured entire can over first layer. Sprinkled it with some cinnamon sugar I keep mixed in the spice cabinet, then put top layer on. Hit the spot! Wish I had a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Banana Sour Cream Bread
I have never tasted a banana bread recipe that I like as good as I like this one. I've made mini-loaves to give away during Christmas. It is excellent. Thank you for sharing!
