My Mom's idea of cooking a meal was to cut up hotdogs and heat them with a can of beans. When I was first married I was willing to cook but had no idea what I was doing. I had to follow every recipe EXACTLY. I was blessed to have a mother-in-law who loves to cook and is an artist at it--her question is always, well, what do you like? It's hard to get a recipe from her because she never uses them. I am now a blend of both, I start out with a recipe but I have the freedom and experience to ask, what do you like? And change things without being terrified that it won't turn out. One of the joys of my life is cooking with my mother-in-law during the holidays.
By the way, I would never presume to call myself an "expert" cook but...people do love my cooking ;-)
Apple Butter Pork Loin
Very delicious. Fed from age 8 to 76 and everyone loved it. I passed on the apple juice and just poured the sauce over the meat after about 15 mins in the oven. Perfect and yummy. Added bonus: smells great too! BTW, I served it with spicy baked beans; great together...
