About this Cook
I took an early retirement after working for Delta Air Lines in Chicago for years. Before moving to Allen I lived in Las Vegas and worked at Bellagio and helped to open the Wynn Las Vegas. The VIP Lounge was a fascinating and exciting place to work. I met many famous people, from celebrities to politicians, etc. My 2 children are grown and living in Chicago and here in the Allen area. I work out and volunteer my time as much as possible. It's nice to give back.
My favorite things to cook
Italian food, sauce and meatballs and lasagne, stuffed shells. I love to bake, and breads are a favorite, also cookies at Christmas.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Our Thanksgiving is usually spent in Chicago and with my Dad and step-mother who is a fantastic cook. Christmas is here, everyone comes and on Christmas Eve we do fish and shellfish. Christmas Day is usually steak on the grill with great sides. Easter is Polish sausages and beets with horseradish, homemade cheese and challah bread.
My cooking triumphs
Lasagna that is so delicious I always get compliments. I use the meatballs from my sauce the day before and the flavor is wonderful.
My cooking tragedies
Cooking fresh ducks in college, I didn't know that the pellets had not been removed by the hunters, my roomates, so I cooked them with some lovely orange juice basting. We sat down to eat, about 10 of us and almost broke our teeth on the first bite!

Blue Cheese and Bacon Potato Salad
This recipe is fantastic. I doubled it with no problem, the tip about putting the potatoes on a kitchen towel really worked and completely removed the moisture from them. The dressing is easy to make and tastes fabulous. To be fair I did not add the olive oil, and it was still very good. My family loved how fresh it tasted, not heavy. I quartered some hard boiled eggs and decorated the top with them. Big hit in this household! Thank you for posting this recipe, we loved it.

Snowballs II
So delicious, just like my Grandmother used to make. I did not add the peppermint candy, Rolled them in powdered sugar two times. Now I am hoping they freeze well, I will update as needed.

Clone of a Cinnabon
The buns are in the oven and it smells so great in my house. This was very simple, I followed directions to a T, and they look fabulous. I'll add when I taste, but I think these are going to be a hit! Made these a 2nd time and I dropped the cinnamon down to 2 Tablespoons and added a sprinkle of cardamom to the brown sugar mixture. The first time I made as written and it was just a tad too much cinnamon flavor for us. But this is a wonderful recipe.
