Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2012
It's great bread. You can safely cut down the enormous amount of sugar in it if you wish unless you like it slightly sweet.

Soft-N-Fluffy Hamburger Buns

Reviewed: May 11, 2012
I've made several of the hamburger bun recipes here at allrecipes & this one is by far the best if you want soft, fluffy light buns. This is the 2nd time I made this, the first time I used Gold Medal Better for Bread flour, this time I used Central Milling Organic Artisan Malted Type 70 flour & added 1 tablespoon for the recipe. I made this for 14 servings as I have a burger pan (6) and a hot dog pan (8). It came out really great. Soft and fluffy. This is the best buns recipe so far that I've ever made. EDIT: I used a Cuisinart Stand Mixer for this recipe & added more water than called for in the recipe, so watch the water, they can be on the dry side, so you will probably need more water than it says.

Picante Chicken Rice Burritos

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2008
This was a great recipe. My husband went nuts. We also made our own tortillas for it as well (even better). Instead of chili powder I used a serrano pepper.

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies VI

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2008
These cookies were great. I followed the recipe exactly, but added dried apricots and sunflower seeds to it as well as raisins. I skewed the recipe for 10, but it made 18 (might be due to the oxo cookie scoop that I use)- however no problem. This recipe was great. Adding the sunflower seeds and dried apricots made it taste similarly to Aussie Bites from Costco (which are delicious btw). Only these tasted a LOT better. I think next time I'll buy some flax seeds and add them in as well. Summing up - fantastic cookies!

Gorgonzola Cheese Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2005
Excellent recipe. I did use it for another cheese that I disliked (Red Hawk by Cowgirl Creamery). I only added 2 cups of milk, 2 handfuls of flour, and I added chopped onions to the butter while it was melting (I used more butter than it called for) and added garlic to it as well. It was delicious. I put it over the veggies and the Quorn patty that we had for dinner.

Tortillas I

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2004
Excellent recipe! My husband and I cook a lot (and love it) and this was the first tortilla recipe that came out soft! The secret is the baking powder, which seems to thicken them up and makes them soft. These were the best tortillas we've ever tried! Now for the changes we made. I cut it down to 5 servings for the servings for my husband and myself, which is the perfect size for 2. We also use an electric tortilla maker, and this recipe is perfect for it. It's my husband's job to put the tortillas in and make them once they are on the tortilla maker (which cooks them and makes them perfectly round, and rather perfect). I used more salt and more water in this recipe than called for, as I cook a lot and I can "tell" that it needed to be more bread like. I did not roll them out with a rolling pin. I did not lubricate the top with oil or cover for 10 minutes. I put all the ingredients in a bowl, used my hand mixer, added more hot water and salt to taste (and feel). Rolled them into 3 balls (which were really too small for the tortilla maker), and while rolling them used more flour, several times. Then I had my husband put them in the tortilla maker to cook and they came out great, and tasted the BEST ever. I also always use real BUTTER for shortening in any recipe that calls for shortening and it has always exceeded my taste expectations. This was no different. The tortillas came out soft (reather than hard) and also were delicious!

Baking Powder Biscuits I

Excellent biscuits. I have been making them with a vegetarian gravy sauce that I made up (yes I know I need to send it to All Recipes).

Hot Water Pie Crust I

Reviewed: May 3, 2004
This recipe was great. I just dumped all the ingredients into the food processor and presto, it was done. Instead of shortening I used butter. The pie crust tasted better than the pie!

Jo Jo's Favorite Banana Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2004
These are fantastic like everyone is saying. I tried other banana recipes here but these are the BEST! And my DH loves them too! They puff up fine, and are just scrumptious! When making 12 of them use 1 egg (not 1 1/3 egg like it says in the scaled down version). Other than that I followed the recipe exactly. Also, for 12 muffins use 3 very very very ripe bananas and they'll come out great!

Doughnut Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2004
This recipe is delicious! The one change I did was add 1/2 tsp of cinnamon instead of 1/4 to the muffin mix. I also used a hand mixer on the recipe. They do taste like cake donuts to me. The other thing is that the recipe made 10 not 12 muffins for me. When they rise in the oven they get very tall! My husband, who is a bit picky loved this! I recommend this recipe.

Baker's Secret Pie Crust

Reviewed: Feb. 29, 2004
I think it's great. Today was the second time I used it (for a cherry tart recipe), and it was delicious. The first time I used it for an egg custard recipe and we hated the egg custard, but we loved the crust! I think the secret is vinegar, and I used rice vinegar since I don't have white. If you cook a lot I suggest getting a huge magimix/food processor with a kneading blade and dough hook. That's what I used for this recipe and I just dumped everything together and it still came out great. I used this recipe for tarts, even though it says for pies.
