Rabbit Gumbo

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2012
I found it very ordinary and not very interesting. I had some okra which is why I made it. I didn't have any smoked sausage and was too lazy to go and buy some. I don't think it would have helped it very much. I have erased it from my recipe list.

Pleasant. I like rabbit and have some very good recipes, but I didn't feel that this was worth a place.

Chicken Honey Nut Stir Fry

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2012
The sauce is delicious. I put in garlic and onions with vegetables, also mushrooms. I don't like nuts, so did not use cashews. I added stock cube and dried chillies. and didn't find the orange juice too much. I also went lightly on the cornflour.

Apricot Brown Sugar Ham

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2012
I have recipe that came from a restaurant in Ontario. It had apple juice, mustard, lemon juice and maple syrup or brown sugar. On looking at the recipe now, I see that it had crushed pineapple. I haven't made this dish for some forty years, but I don't remember that. BUT I do know the ham was absolutely delicious. It is much on the same lines as the recipe given.

Easy Devonshire Cream

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2012
It sounds rather nice and I shall make it. BUT it is not Devonshire Cream. To have the real thing. Milk with a good cream content is left so that the cream rises to the top and is then scalded. The taste is unique.

Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2012
I am rather inclined to agree with FLO 3/2/10. The first time that I try a recipe I follow it. As I am cooking for one person I reduce the quantities of edibles to suit and the liquid parts by 1/2 or 1/4. But I stick to the recipe. Well almost....I always used garlic and not powder. Actually it is no different (except for the sherry) than what I have been making for years.

Savory Breakfast Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2012
I followed the recipe exactly except the sugar. I used only 1 tablespoon of sugar and that made it sweet enough for me. Also, I DID add a bit of mustard. I found it delicious. Will make again.

Elaine's Sweet and Tangy Loose Beef BBQ

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2012
I wouldn't like beef cooked like this. But the sauce sounded delicious and I wondered what I could do with it. I had cooked prawns in the frig, so I thought of using it for a dip or sauce. Then I remembered that I had a shoulder of lamb. I had cut a lot off it to put in the freezer, but I still had the bone with quite a lot of meat on it. I followed the recipe, except that I reduced the ingredients to a 1/4. I am rather wary of ketchup in cooking, so I used a bit and made the measure up with very good tomato sauce that I had in the frig. The result was excellent.

Baked Lemon Chicken with Mushroom Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2012
I liked it, but it needed fixing up, I cooked in a skillet too and used seasoning. I had girolles which I cooked with a little garlic, put in a little flour and chicken broth and white wine. I like lemon things, but I put in some thick sour cream at the end. In other words I more or less changed the whole thing.

Absolute Best Liver and Onions

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2012
I followed it exactly BUT I decreased the quantity of liver and onion to suit my appetite. The most important thing is to soak the liver in milk. One can use a cheaper cut of liver and it will taste like the most expensive calf liver - it also takes any bitter taste out of beef or lamb liver. I have used that tip for years.

Spicy Lemon Pork Saute

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2012
I love lemon things, but in this recipe it seemed to stand out and not blend. Also, no salt so I put in some of a bouillon cube. I had bought spare ribs (with more meat than bone) and was looking for a different way to cook them and this recipe fitted in. No where near enough sauce, so added some water. Can't say I thought much of it.

Greek Spice Rub

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2012
I have been looking for something like this, instead of buying it in a well known supermarket and not being all that happy with it. Think that altho' I have never tried it, mint might be rather nice.

Absolutely Fabulous Greek/House Dressing

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2012
it's a vinaigrette with herbs in it. Normally one puts 2/3 vinegar to 1 of oil and not the opposite as in this recipe. I used cider vinegar, because it was all I had. I followed the recipe exactly but found it so sharp that I had to put in a good bit more oil.

Zucchini and Blue Cheese Side

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2012
A very nice way to eat courgettes. I didn't have a Blue, and was too lazy to go out and buy, so I used a mix of Emmenthal and Parmesan. But the next time I will make sure I have a bit of Roquefort on hand. It would be even nicer, I am sure.

Marinated Ranch Broiled Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2012
I had lamb cutlets in the frig and couldn't decide how to cook them, so I used this recipe (to the letter). It was delish. I didn't know what a Dry Ranch style dressing was, but made it up according to the info on this site.

Egg in a Hole

Come home late at night, peckish.......this is a nice, quick and easy snack. The bacon fat makes it extra delicious. A bit of pepper and salt. The deed is done.

Asian Beef Skewers

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2012
I used it for pork spare ribs. It needs the salt and pepper that are not mentioned and could certainly do with some chilli. Icannot find sherry, in spite of living next door to Spain, so I used white porto. Next time I will used cognac. I had lovely meaty ribs and they were delicious. The next time I will try it with fish/sea food.

Butter Lamb Gravy

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2012
Most pleasant. Quick and easy to prepare. I had stewing lamb meat and was looking for something different. I saw this one, and just let it simmer longer for the meat to become tender. I used chillies instead of powder. I was extremely wary of the amount of honey. For my taste, I found 1/2 tbsp. quite enough. But that is like salt and pepper - a personal taste.
