Lemon Ginger Shrimp

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2013
For me, it wasn't supposed to have a predominant taste of ginger or lemon. Everything is supposed to go together to make a delicious harmony. I thought the marinade very good and the end result superb. I intend to try this marinade with other meat. I loved the smell of sesame oil.

Zesty Summer Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2013
I thought it excellent. However I agree that there is very little juice to make the sauce. I had to add water to stop it from becoming a "goo". I did simmer it ( to cook the garlic, ginger and zest) a little, before adding the cornflour. My neighbour thought it delish.

Carolyn's Oh-So-Easy Cherry Cobbler

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2013
I am absolutely crazy about cherries and as it is now the cherry season, this recipe falls well, that is it would if I knew what a buttermilk mix was.

Picante-Glazed Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2013
I can't buy Pace Picante Sauce, so had to find a recipe to make myself. Very good put into ice cube trays to use as wanted. My sauce was quite hot and the whole mix went well together. I don't have town gas, so try to avoid using oven. Finding someone who is willing to lug a 25kg bottle up two flights is not so easy. I fried the wings first and then finished them off in the sauce. I had some of the sauce left over and used it the next day as a base for a lamb stew.

Green Beans with Anchovies

Reviewed: May 23, 2013
I followed the recipe exactly and liked it very much. However I think one must be very careful to blend the anchovies and the lemon, so that neither one is predominant. I, although I love lemon, found it a little too present.

One Dish Bourbon Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2013
It was pleasant. The taste of the Bourbon was a change. But I wouldn't write home to Mum about it. In my personal recipe book it goes under the "I work, I get home tired, I have to cook. I want to eat something quick, easy and tasty".

Devil's Steak Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2013
I am a bit perplexed as to what to say. Whilst I was cooking it, I tasted it a couple of times and found it delicious. But when I went to eat it with my steak, I was quite disgusted and I scraped it off the plate. However I am convinced that it would be just superb with game or duck. I have ordered a pigeon for next week. I used raspberries instead of jam. I was too lazy to walk a couple of metres to buy a jar. I have given it 5 stars for game, but none if it's with steak.

Quick Chicken Piccata

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2013
I liked it very much. I followed the recipe exactly, but I was rather wary of the amount of lemon juice and added a bit less than the amount stated. Delicious. I cooked too much chicken and ate the rest for supper. The sauce was even better second time round. I can't understand anyone having trouble making it. Everything did just what it was supposed to do.

Chef John's Chicken and Mushrooms

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2013
I liked it. But awfully sorry, Chef John, I did used white wine instead of water and I added just the tiniest clove of garlic. It's a good and quick. I will make it again.

Ranch Dressing II

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2013
Very good. I used real mayonnaise - you know egg yolks and oil beaten together. Didn't have any problems. Salt and pepper is a matter of personal taste.

Company Liver with Onions

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2013
I thought it delicious. I have never used tin mushrooms in my life, but had a lovely mix of bolets, cepes and girolles which I used. As they were fresh, I didn't have any liquid, so made that up with white wine.

Cherry Pie Filling

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2013
I can't buy cherry pie filling and wondered what I could do for the Best No-Bake Cheesecake. Now I have an idea. I suppose one could also put some sugar in it, if the cherries are too tart. It will be the cherry season in a few months and I will have a go.

Roasted Apples and Brussels Sprouts

A most pleasant change for Brussels. I cooked it all on top of the stove. To use the oven for 5 Brussels!!!! The next time I think I might put some lardons in.

Spicy Avocado Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2012
I think that it would be much nicer with a simple vinaigrette rather than pure lemon. In my country we eat avocados as an hors d'oeuvre with a vinaigrette. I will try it like that the next time.

Baked Honey Mustard Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2012
I don't cook in the oven very often, it is for me a very expensive way to cook. Also I have to find someone who will go and buy and carry a gas bottle up two flights. The first time I used the micro wave, but must have left it too long. I just rescued the sauce from completely burning. The next, I cooked it on top of the stove (very low flame). OK, but I found it too sweet and couldn't finish it. It's strange, because before cooking, the mustard is predominant, but not after cooking. I am disappointed, because I like this combination. Don't know whether I will make it again, even using less honey.
