Indonesian Satay

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2005
This was very good, but like other reviewers I found the sauce to be too watery. Next time I will definitely cut down on the amount of water. Good otherwise.

Pesto

Only pesto recipe you'll ever need. Absolutely perfect, I wouldn't change a thing.

Arrabbiata Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2004
This is a great sauce -- I use just 1 can of diced tomatoes rather than 2. I also use the petit diced tomatoes rather than the regular kind, which is too chunky. I would also recommend blending some of the sauce in a blender so it's a bit thicker. It definitely packs a spicy kick.

Mexican Rice I

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2004
This is really easy to prepare with things you most likely already have in your kitchen -- I use salsa instead of diced tomatoes (no sense opening up a whole can of diced tomatoes for just 3 oz). It's good as a side dish and won't overpower flavors of the other things you might be serving with it.

Chicken Pasta Primavera

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2004
This was one of the first recipes I made off of this website. It's a nice, light, tasty meal. For an extra flavor kick, make the same amount of veggies/chicken/sauce, but half the amount of pasta (I sometimes found too many bites with a lot of pasta and not much else.)

Chicken Pesto a la Lisa

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2004
This is a really good recipe, great for company. I use my own pesto using the "Pesto" recipe on this site that was submitted by Valerie (3 c basil, 4 cloves garlic, 3/4 cup Parmesan, 1/2 cup olive oil, 1/4 cup pine nuts)

Really good; I also add 2 scrambled eggs to the stir fry.

Avocado Soup with Chicken and Lime

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2004
Really good mix of flavors, and healthy too -- I doubled the avocado and mixed 2-3 cups in a blender to thicken it up.

Ginger Shrimp with Fried Rice

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2004
This is a great recipe -- I like it a little sweeter so I add 1 Tablespoon of honey rather than 2 tsp. It's great the day of, only so-so as leftovers.

Banana Pancakes I

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2004
These are good and a great way to use those over-ripe bananas... I omit the sugar, they're sweet enough with the sugar from the banans.

Garden Fresh Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2004
I can't wait until summer every year to make this recipe. It's so good. I would disagree, though, that it makes 6 servings...more like 4 small servings, so if you're cooking for a crowd, you might want to double the recipe. I never would have thought to add cloves to tomato soup, but it gives it just the right flavor. If you don't have a food mill, I've put it in a blender then through a strainer, and that worked fine.

Balsamic Bruschetta

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2004
This is a really good, simple recipe -- great for company. When dicing the tomatoes, make sure the chunks aren't too big, otherwise it's kind of messy to eat. I've made with powdered instead of shredded Parmesan, works just fine!

Exquisite Pizza Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2004
I've used this recipe many, many times -- we love it. I actually use it so much, I put together a big batch of all the dry ingredients so I don't have to measure out all the spices every time (let alone go searching my pantry to find them every time)... I multiplied all the dry ingredients (onion powder through red pepper flakes) by 8 (eg, 1/4 tsp becomes 2 tsp, 1/8 is 1 tsp, etc), mixed them all up, and store them in a small jar -- every time I want to make the sauce, I just have to measure out 2 tsp of the dry ingredients.

Chicken Breasts with Balsamic Vinegar and Garlic

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2004
The balsamic vinegar (a flavor that I usually love) really overpowered this dish. The flavor of bay leaf and thyme were undetectable. Sorry, but I won't be making this again.

Lime Chicken Picante

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2004
My husband frequently requests this dish. It's really easy and only uses a few ingredients so it's great for a quick meal. We love the sauce, so I usually double the amount and add a bit of chicken broth to smooth it out a bit. Yum!

This recipe is THE definitive chocolate birthday cake recipe in our house. It's really moist and the chocolate chips are a nice surprise.
