Creme Brulee French Toast

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2006
These were pretty good and my guests enjoyed them. Based on the other reviews, I used 1/2 cup of sugar and 1 Tbs. of corn syrup. I used a mini baguette of French bread and kept the crust on - altogether it was about 9 slices. I also used 2 tsp. of vanilla and 3 tsp. of Grand Marnier. I also flipped and recoated the bread while it was in the fridge about halfway through. I would make it again, but would probably cut the recipe in half.

Bacon Quiche Tarts

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2006
I really liked these and so did all my guests! It was the only dish all gone at the end of brunch. I used 1/4 cup cheddar and 1/4 Monterey jack instead of Swiss, and regular onion instead of green onion. Like the other reviewers suggested, I used 8 Pillsbury Grands. I was able to get 12 tarts out of the recipe.

Country Style Fried Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2006
These were pretty tasty, but took much longer to cook. I made a few changes - I halved the potatoes, shortening and salt, and kept the other spices the same. I also added 6 cloves of garlic, which I browned in the shortening along with the spices and then added the potato. Since I was using a cast iron skillet, I ended up putting it in the oven at 350 until the potatoes softened. Next time, I would cook the potatoes in the oven.

Cowboy Cookie Mix in a Jar

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2005
Made these for a friend for the holiday. She says the cookies tasted great but she had a lot of trouble getting the sugar out of the jar. Next time I would layer in reverse, since sugar can harded and be difficult to remove from the jar.

Friendship Soup Mix in a Jar

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2004
I used less bouillon (just a cube or a packet) and elbow instead of alphabet macaroni. The jar looks great as a gift, and my friends enjoyed making it (altering the recipe to their taste of course!).

Chile Verde II

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2004
I really liked this recipe. I made some modifications (I divided the recipe by 1/4 because it was for a small group). I have made it with pork and with chicken breast cutlets, both to great results. The main change I have done (because of my personal taste) was to increase the amount of garlic, season the meat in advance, and to puree all the peppers, tomatillos and cilantro together.

My guests and I enjoed this, but it was a little salty for my tastes. (Note that I don't cook with much salt.)

Banana Bars

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2003
Pretty simple to make, even with the frosting, and very tasty. I made a batch, gave half to a friend for his birthday and brought another half to a party I was attending. Everyone gave it rave reviews, and the birthday boy even asked for the recipe.
