Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2013
This is a fantastic recipe. Nothing too special, there are probably a lot of similar recipes out there, but I don't feel the need to try others. We made this with the "Butter Flaky Pie Crust" recipe for the crusts and it turned out perfect!

Colleen's Potato Crescent Rolls

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2013
I found these to be rather bland and dense. I have to be honest, I forgot to add the shortening, but I'm not sure that would have solved the bland taste. The dough rose wonderfully in the fridge, but I was in a hurry so I didn't do the full hour rise before baking (they did nearly triple in size in the oven). This could explain why I found them dense. Normally I would try the recipe again, but I found this one a bit too tedious, time consuming and messy too bother.

Artichoke Spinach Lasagna

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2013
This was a nice alternative to the traditional lasagna. It lacked a little in "body" due to no ricotta/cottage cheese, but we didn't really miss it. The great thing about this recipe is that none of the ingredients spoil quickly, so you can buy everything and wait until it's the most convenient to make it. Couldn't really come up with anything that needs to change in the recipe, hence the 5 stars!

Honey Wheat Bread I

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2013
This bread is fantastic! I'm a white bread guy in general, but this blows away most store bought wheat breads. So soft and airy, but still has great structure. We had different plans for it, but couldn't stop eating it with just honey butter. I used the bread maker on the "dough" setting until the wheat flour was mixed in, then reset it, added the bread flour and let the "dough" setting complete. Then it's as simple as punching it down, cutting in half and putting in two loaf pans for the final rise. This will likely become a staple in our home.

Greek Pasta Salad I

We skipped the pepperoni in here. It was a great pasta salad. The mushrooms are a nice addition.

French Silk Chocolate Pie I

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2013
This turned out fantastic. We doubled the recipe to fit into a deep dish pie crust (about 2 inches). We made it following the instructions exactly and it fit into the pie crust perfectly. I would highly recommend letting this set in the fridge overnight. Make sure to wait 5 minutes in between eggs, we had to be extra patient waiting 20 minutes. As far as the raw eggs, I'm not an expert, but as far as I understand it, Salmonella is extremely rare these days and even if a batch of eggs is infected it is quickly pulled from the shelves once anything is reported. As long as you don't fit into one of the at risk categories you have very little to worry about. For example, we didn't allow our 1 or 3 year old to have any of the pie. Thats just my two cents, do your own research.

Garlic Mashed Potatoes Secret Recipe

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2013
This recipe gives you a starting point. The quantities for this recipe when scaled down to 10 servings (which I assume most people on here will do), seem a bit off. 13 oz. of butter and over 14 cup of garlic!!!! We used 8 oz of butter and thought that was still a lot and 2 tbsp. of garlic was easily enough. We still ended up having to add some sour cream to get the potatoes to a less "clumpier" consistency. They were quite good at this point, but it may have well been a different recipe.

Broccoli with Garlic Butter and Cashews

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2013
This was a big hit with everyone. The only thing I may try different next time is see if the sauce will cook down to more of a glaze before adding it to the broccoli.

Blueberry Buckle

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2013
I have to agree with some of the other reviews. Using this recipe as is leads to a dry half cake/half muffin. Without the sugar topping it would be close to very plain/boring. We ended up adding ice cream (for breakfast). With some changes I'm sure it could be improved, but I don't expect to have to change a 4.5 star recipe with that many reviews.

Best Tuna Casserole

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2013
This ended up being too dry. Needs more of a sauce instead of just condensed soup. Also, if you end up having leftovers the potato chips just turn into a soggy mess.

Angel Hair with Feta and Sun-Dried Tomatoes

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2013
This recipe is lacking something. Some type of sauce would help. When you toss everything together the feta and tomatoes all go to the bottom of the bowl.

Burrito Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2013
Overall a great, easy comfort food recipe. I agree with some of the reviews stating that it becomes a one-textured somewhat mushy meal. If I was ordering this in a restaurant I could see this being disappointing because you expect a little more effort/creativity, but I don't mind this at home when we are looking for a easy, satisfying meal. If I were going to try and jazz this up I would use ground chorizo instead of ground beef and keep the meat separate from everything else, then layer like so....bean mixture on bottom, tortillas, meat mixture and cheese, tortillas, bean mixture, tortillas, meat and cheese, tortillas, etc. If you make this in a deep 9" pie dish you can just use burrito size tortilla's, 2 per layer and have a nicely layered lasagna effect. We fit all the ingredients into one deep pie dish.

Cheddar Biscuits

As far as I have heard, these are the ingredients in the famous seafood restaurants biscuits. The quantities of the ingredients may vary a bit from recipe to recipe, but these are nearly the same thing!

Chef John's Buttermilk Biscuits

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2013
Like the video says, you really need to do this recipe several times to master it. If I had settled on one try I probably would have rated the recipe 3 stars and moved on, but tried it a couple more times and the biscuits got better each time. Big key was not over-mixing.

Omelet in a Mug

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2013
The eggs turn out good, but had to give the recipe 3 stars because the clean up is always a pain. Tried spraying the cups and greasing with butter but the egg is always a pain to clean out of the mug.

Oven Scrambled Eggs

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2013
So this is one of those recipes where you feel real dumb afterwards, wondering why you haven't been making scrambled eggs like this for years! These eggs turn out perfect, something that I don't say too often. You can make eggs this good on the stove top, but they require constant attention and the results are a little more inconsistent. These and some buttered toast is all you need for a great breakfast.
