Meat Gravy

I made this recipe exactly as listed but omited the ox tails as I didn't think my Italian family would eat themGreat recipe full of flavour. I made this to go along with brascole and linguine pasta. Came out wonderful .The smell in my kitchen was like I died and went to heaven. Everyone licked their lips and fingers at dinner. Thanks for the great meal!!!!

Exquisite Pizza Sauce

I made this sauce as it was written and decided to cook it as it tasted raw to me. The honey was way too much and the sauce was too sweet I was tempted to throw it out but I tried to save it.I decided to add one more can of tomato paste , 1cup more water. Much more oregano, basil, garlic and onion powder and some black pepper. I cooked it on low for 15 min and it was very nice tasting. This made enough for 3 party size pizzas. Next time I would omit the honey and the parmeasan cheese. just adding maybe 1 tablesppon of sugar instead, salt to taste and my extra herbs and spices.

Healthier Classic Macaroni Salad

Not a bad maccaroni salad. I used low fat mayo as I thought 18 grams of fat per serving was way too much for a "healthier"macaroni salad. I also added paprika. Brought this to a bbq.Not a great hit. Most people did not like the whole wheat maccaroni. Next time will use white.

Fried Cookies

This is an Italian fried Bowtie cookie traditionally made in Sicily. I used to have these all the time growing up. It was our version of snackfood.The only difference from our recipe is we do not use brandy or anise seed and use vanilla or almond extract instead. Much better taste.Dad used to make these in his bakerey and always sold out faster than he could make them.

Italian Special Sweet Fried Ravioli Cookies

Great recipe...my dad the baker used to make these in the bakery at Christmas time.He used riccotta cheese and dates or figs for the filling.Try it,you will love this version.

Weekday Pot Roast and Vegetables

This is the second time I have made this pot roast. Ist time made as is and it was cooked in 5 hrs on low. Not enough gravy and seasonings were lacking.So recipe made as is is only 2 star. This time I added 1 can cream of mushroom soup ,1/2 cup red wine, dash of worcheshire sauce, rosemary, oregano and salt and pepper. Family licked their fingers when they ate it up. Expected some leftovers but sadley there were none. This makes this recipe deliscious

Irish Soda Bread I

So good and very easy recipe. Batter was a bit dry so I added about 3 tablespoons of milk. I also baked it in a bread pan. Will make again but will add bit more raisins next time.

Italian Fig Cookies I

Love this one. My Dad brought this recipe from Sicily but he did not use apples.This recipe has been in my famly for 70 years and is traditionally made at Christmas. I learned to make this in the family bakery when I was a teenager. Great recipe and very much worth the effort.

Italian Wedding Soup I

So wonderfull. Made ths today as it was a rainy day. Only change was I subbed spinach as I did not have escarole on hand. Still deliscious. Froze the leftovers. Looking foward to eating the leftovers at future lunches.

Panettone II

This was a good loaf. Did not taste like panettone. Rose so high it hit the top of the bread machine. Next time I will use less yeast only 1 1/2tsp and add more vanilla extract and will add some almond extract and more dried fruit. Could use more sugar as well. Upddate: made this bread again today. This time reduced yeast to 1 1/2 tsp, upped the sugar to 1/4 cup, reduced the salt to 1 tsp. Added 2 tsp vanilla and almond extract. Added 1 cup mixed fruit(golden raisins and mixed dried peel). These changes now make it a 5 star authentic Italian panettone. Spoken by a 100% Italian person.

My Mom's Good Old Potato Salad

Great.My recipe too. Only I use fat free mayo and only about 4 eggs.Used kosher dills for better flavour and added mustard and paprika for flavour and color. 10 eggs...way too much!!!! Need to cut the fat and calorie content.

WOW! Better than those in Ottawa at the Farmer's Market. Now We can have them anytime we want. So deliscious and addictive. The kids wanted a sweet treat so we decided to whip these up for desert. They gobbled them up .Making them again and again!!!
