Baby Blue Punch

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2008
I also used white grape juice instead of white cranberry. This was for a Holiday party with a "Winter Blues" theme. The first person who tried it said it was "awful" and three others said it was way too sweet. Then a handful of other guests thought it was way too tart. I made 10 gallons and had about 5 gallons left over (serving 120 people). Probably not something I will try again.

Squash Stew

Reviewed: May 22, 2004
I searched high and low for a "squash, corn, and bean stew" I used to eat in college. This fits the bill! I throw in a package of frozen corn during the last 20 minutes or so. So very yummy with hot white rice, cornbread or a fresh baked loaf. I kick up the spice with some cayenne but thats just my taste. Excellent :)

Philippine-Made Sugar Cookie

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2004
This recipe only got two stars on a few accounts. one is that the chocolate grating was very messy, it was melting all over my hands, so that wasn't very fun or "easy-to-make". two is that the cookies were very puffy and tasted like baking soda; I should have probably omitted the soda since I prefer a chewy cookie. Also the chocolate and soda combo gave the cookie this unappealing grey color.

Caramel Shortbread Squares

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2004
Mmm, this was tasty. I had some adaptions. First, I didn't have sweetened condensed milk so I used melted vanilla ice cream, and prepared it with the other ingredients in the microwave, just letting it bubble for about 7 minutes or so until the color of caramel was reached. The caramel spread easily and even when cooled was soft and chewy. Also used a little less chocolate, just enough for a top "shell" and I used semi-sweet, with a little oil and milk to thin out enough to be spreadable. Was easy to adapt so it got good rankings. Thanks!

Can't Get Enough Caramel Cookies!

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2004
It was very salty and greasy. We dont have Quaker oats in Germany so I just used the normal variety and it was awful. Maybe a little less salt or soda would help but I don't think I will try it again.

Black Bottom Cupcakes I

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2003
gotta say not what i expected. i made 3 dozen and the last ones i baked at 190 for 15-20 min and they came out the best as far as rich and gooey cupcake. the others were kind of hockey-puck like. nice presentation and the cheese and chocolate were a nice compliment to each other.

Apple Oatmeal Cookies I

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2003
very good cookie! i used 1/4 c margarine and 1/4 c shortening, and switched the rolled oats for "fruit müsli", which gave me an assortment of raisins, nuts, and grains. light and fluffy, great for the fall!

Filet with a Merlot Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2003
500 stars!! The merlot sauce was gorgeous and easy because I prepared it the day before. I put in Pfefferlinger (named sometimes Chantrelle or Girolle) mushrooms for an extra special elegant touch. Such dramatic color! Wow your guests with this one.

Tuppakaka

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2003
Wow!! I have to say, i was skeptical at first. So easy? So few ingredients? The results were great :) i did take some liberties, cut down the sugar to 1c and added a packet of vanilla sugar, then a few drops of almond extract. I topped with sliced almonds and a sprinkling of brown sugar, and put it under the broiler for a minute after it was done. I wanted to find out if it was good chilled but it didn't last that long. :) thanks for the quick, easy, and elegant recipe!

Lemon Poppy Seed Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2003
Ahhhhh this is so good, ate it till I was ill and then ate more, even fiance who said "I don't like lemony baked goods" couldn't put it down. I made one giganto loaf, and upped the poppy seeds to a few heaping tablespoons. Also soaked the seeds in buttermilk for 2 hrs before starting. Thanks for the outstanding recipe!!!

Blonde Brownies III

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2003
Ok I took this ground recipe cuz I liked it the best out of all of them, then I tried my own touch. Upped the butter to a full cup and cut the flour way down, only about 1.5 cups. I baked it in a 9x9, and also lined with parchment paper - my chips sank so I got a choco "crust" on the bottom. The added butter and less flour gave a dense, chewy blondie that many people may have been looking for. Baked at 180 C for about 35 min. I put out a plate of brownies and blondies, although it was inconclusive if gentlemen really do prefer blondes :)

Zucchini Cobbler

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2003
Ok, I'm not going to lie. I wasn't fooled a bit. The bitterness of zucchini was very strong and overwhelming. I would suggest slicing the zucchini, salting them (like an eggplant), then rinsing off the salt and trying this recipe. That way the bitterness is gone. and it doesn't taste like you accidently threw the veggies in the cobbler and the apples in the soup.

Chicken Tequila Fettuccini

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2003
I'm not sure what type of "paste" I was supposed to get, I just cooked it until there was virtually no more liquid in the tequila/lime mix. I was hoping for more sauce so I added some ranch dressing to my noodles at the end (my fiance liked the spice and was satisfied, it was hot for me). Otherwise a creative flavor and nice looking presentation. I oven broiled the chicken breasts also, that made them nice n juicy.

Avocado Green Goddess Dressing

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2003
This dressing was easy and really yummy! I used sour cream instead of mayo and it was still thick so i thinned with Buttermilk till the consistency was right, about 2 Tbs. This topped a romaine lettuce salad full of eggs, warm bacon, anchovies, and roasted nuts -- perfect!!

Bread Pudding II

I tried this with 3 old cinnamon raisin bagels--yum! Added an extra 1/2 cup milk though, the bagels soaked it up quick. I did have a lot of extra butter floating on top.

B.L.T. Salad with Basil Mayo Dressing

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2003
Very tasty, just like a BLT... only it sat a little heavy. I tried 1 T of dried basil since I didn't have fresh on hand and was ok. Does anyone know the correct conversion between fresh and dried herbs?

Breakfast Sausage

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2003
I'm in Germany where they have an abundance of Schweinehackfleisch (ground pork) but no Bob Evans...My fiance loved a "sausage muffin" with a sausage pattie, egg, and cheese on english muffin for weekend breakfast. I made this and his reaction was well worth it!! Very, very yummy :)
