Overall, I gave the results a resounding "Eh." Not bad, but not what I was expecting from the other reviews.
The meatball mix sounded bland, so I added a sprinkling of salt, pepper, garlic powder, dried parsley, and red pepper flakes. It tasted OK. I didn't think the onion was overwhelming, as some said, but the meatballs were a little mushy.
I ended up using more chili sauce than the recipe called for because after putting all the meatballs in the crockpot there did not seem to be enough sauce. I bought a small generic bottle from WalMart, and it wasn't too spicy. The finished sauce wasn't bad, it just tasted like sweet & sour sauce from Chinese takeout. I'm not sure I liked it with beef---I might have tried it with ground pork or turkey instead.
I give the recipe as-is only two stars.
