Land of Nod Cinnamon Buns

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2010
Absolutely SUPER! Used a 9x13 pan cause I don't have a bunt pan and only made 12. Turned out fantastic and I got a big hug from my daughter for making her fresh cinnamon buns in the morning. No need to tell her it was no trouble at all right?

One Bowl Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2010
Followed the recipe exactly as is and it is FANTASTIC! I had my doubts about such a big pan but it worked great. I sprayed with pam and lined with flour - they came out just fine. Baked 35 minutes on the dot, sprinkled with icing sugar and wow do they taste great. This is the best from scratch brownie recipe I have had.

Apple Rhubarb Crumble

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2009
VERY good. Used rolled old fashioned oats with the flower and corn syrup (no maple in my house). Accidentally mixed the brown sugar in with the apple/rhubarb mixture but it all turned out great. Oh, also baked in 9x9 pan at 350 for an hour and it browned nicely! Thank you.

Consomme Pork Chops

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2008
Did not like this at all - husband, kids or myself. Pork chops were dry and the flavor was not that great. Found it similar to a recipe we used to make that used a can of mushroom soup and 1 can of milk rather than the consomme soup and it is much better than this.

Apple Breakfast Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2008
I've never had Apple Breakfast Bread before but think this one tastes pretty good! Used 1/2 brown, 1/2 white sugar - added 2 tablespoons of oil - doubled the cinammon and left out the cloves (because I didn't have any). The batter was super thick and I thought for sure I didn't do something right but it seemed to bake okay. 350 for an hour on the nose. Seems a bit dry to me so I might be inclined to add 1/4 oil, 1/4 butter next time. Will make again.

Pork Chops a la Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2008
Followed directions except added extra chicken broth. Husband said they were flavorless and the kids wouldn't eat them. Will not be making again.

Pork Chops for the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2008
Fantastic recipe... not five stars because the chops were dry but I really think that it is next to impossible to get tender chops out of a crock pot. I did double the sauce - had 8 boneless chops - cooked on high for about 1 hour and low for 2-3. Followed the recipe except for: added two big squirts of honey and halfed the soya sauce filling up the other half with water. Will definitely make again and try with chicken too!

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2008
Good but didn't stand out. Unfortunately the skin on the breasts of my turkey was missing so I couldn't put the butter under there. Will try this again next time but I think I'll cook the turkey upside down so the breast meat is in the broth...

Baked French Fries I

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2008
Very good recipe. Needed salt and cut down on the chili powder in fear of them being too spicy for the kids. Will definitely be making again!

Chicken Breasts with Balsamic Vinegar and Garlic

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2008
AWESOME! Left out the mushrooms and didn't have a bay leaf. Definitely not too much vinegar. Fantastic flavor and smelled absolutely delicious while it was cooking. My kids ate it with no complaints! Thanks!

Carrot Cake III

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2008
Excellent. I made it exactly as written - I agree with another reviewer that you can't rate a recipe if you've made changes to it because it's not the same recipe. It turned out wonderful and is nice and moist. There is more than enough icing however and it could probably have been halfed. Thank you!

Cream Cheese Frosting II

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2008
Pretty darn good! I actually cut the recipe down for serving of 6 because that's all the cream cheese I had and seen as how it's -48 celcius today I didn't want to go out! It whipped up really easy (and very quick) and I just added more icing sugar to taste. Used it on mini carrot muffins and it satisfied my craving perfectly!!! Thanks so much!

Hot Artichoke and Spinach Dip II

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2007
I made this dish not even knowing what an artichoke was!!! Took it to a get together with friends tonight and it went over great (I think my hubby ate the most!). Made a few alterations as follows: used 1/4 cup sour cream and a 1/4 mayo. Found an Italian blend of shredded cheeses at Safeway (Lucerne brand) which included mozza, parmesan, provolone and fontina and just used 3/4 cups of this and mixed/stirred it into the rest. Baked it for about 1/2 when it started to bubble, took it out an sprinkled some more of the cheese blend on top and broiled for about 6/7 minutes until it got lightly browned. Will definitely be making again. Thanks so much!!!

Ninety Minute Cinnamon Rolls

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2007
The reason I tried this recipe was because of the ninety minutes - which does hold true. I baked them in a pan rather than the cupcake tins (I'm not sure which would be best to be honest). I found them to be more of a heavy, cake-like texture than light. All of the spread pretty much melts right out when they are baking which left them a little bland (probably why a lot of people put the frosting on them). The ninety minutes seems like a good thing but I should've known that you just can't rush a good dough. I won't be trying these again.

Cocktail Meatballs

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2007
They were good but after reading all the fantastic reviews I was expecting well, fantastic. There was no "wow" factor in these and they tasted pretty similar to my plain old sweet and sour recipe. They didn't fly off the plate at our recent Christmas party and I wouldn't go out of my way to make them again over something else.

Easy Herb Roasted Turkey

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2007
Took another review's advice and gently worked the skin away from the turkey and put all the seasoning underneath the skin - the turkey was much more flavorful and moist... I think at Christmas I am going to try baking the turkey upside down and turning it over the last half hour to brown the top. Very nice recipe and had lots of compliments from the guests!

Neat Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2007
Very nice recipe... four stars because I really have nothing else to compare it to as this was the first time we had sloppy joes! My husband and I ate it - my 5 year old didn't like it and my 7 year old ate it reluctantly... that said I will be making it again!

Pretzel Turtles

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2007
WOW! I just finished making these for a baking exchange and it's a good thing I made more becuase they wouldn't last otherwise!!! I bought the bags of mini rolos because I couldn't find the big ones and they worked out great. Got the square waffle pretzels from Superstore and put 2 mini rolos per pretzel. Melted some white chocolate wafers in a baggie and drizzled it over top of them when done. THESE ARE SOOOOO GOOD!!!!
