About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I like to cook just about anything, mostly baking cakes. I also love hearty "winter-time" cooking - stews, roasts, and especially soups.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My parents were constantly inviting people over for dinner - some of my fondest memories are of family and friends sitting around the dinner table - great food, great friends, and great conversations!
My cooking triumphs
Nearly everything, but it took a few years to hone my skills. Advice to all - get the best quality equipment you can afford (especially cookware)... it will make a HUGE difference in how well things turn out.
My cooking tragedies
The first couple of times I tried to make lemon meringue pie were completely disastrous. The lemon filling was all soupy, and the meringue was all weepy. I was so disappointed! I tried the same recipe both times, so I'm sure the recipe was in err, but It's been about 20 years now, and despite the fact that I'm the one all my friends call with baking questions, and I'm the one always asked to bring the dessert, I'm in no hurry to try that elusive lemon meringue pie any time soon.

Just Like Wendy's(R) Chili
Not exactly like Wendy's, but pretty close. This recipe makes a huge batch - filled my 5.5-qt saucepan almost to the rim. We generally like more beans so I'll add another can or two next time.

Pumpkin Roll Cake
Very tasty and easy to make. If you spray your jelly roll pan well with a flour and oil baking spray, like Baker's Joy, you can completely omit the step of lining your pan with parchment paper.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup
Pretty good recipe to start. I bumped up the flavor by using very flavorful homemade chicken stock instead of bouillon, and sauteing the ham and veggies in a bit of butter to bump up the flavor. I also used quite a bit more ham than the recipe called for. Finished it all off with fresh parsley and chives.
