Butternut and Acorn Squash Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2006
I gave this four stars because it was close to perfect. The one drawback for me was how sweet it was. Next time I will probably omit the sugar altogether. I find the squash sweet enough naturally. This recipe is definitely a keeper though.

No-Tomatoes-Required Italian Seasoned Stir Fry

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2009
I made this on Labour Day and had to substitute for items I didn't have on hand. (Substituted asparagus for the zucchini, italian seasoning for the garlic powder and balsamic vinagrette for the italian dressing). We really, really enjoyed it and I'd like to try it again with the proper ingredients. My only regret is that we didn't have any white wine to drink with it.

Citrus Swordfish With Citrus Salsa

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2005
The recipe was extremely tasty and made a wonderful summer meal (I made it back in June, but just getting around to reviewing it). My BIG MISTAKE was not having ever handled jalepenos before I was not aware that one should wear gloves when touching the seeds and membranes of a jalepeno. I paid for it all night with hands that felt like they were on fire! When I did a google search I found that this is a well-documented fact, which made me feel really stupid but I don't come from a culture that uses hot peppers so I had no idea. Anyway, a word of warning to others who do not know this. Wear gloves, you will regret it otherwise.

Roasted Asparagus with Shallots

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2010
Simple preparation for a vegetable that should shine on it's own merits. The shallots were a great addition. I did not have red wine vinegar so I subbed in Balsamic, and it was great.

Egg Foo Yung I

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2004
This has always been one of my favourite chinese food dishes when ordering in. This recipe was just as good as anything I've tasted by the "pros". One note is that the directions for making the sauce seemed odd to me, because they didn't indicate to heat the sauce. I made it in a saucepan and added a tablespoon of oyster sauce for added thickness and flavour. It turned out great. (Bring it to a boil and then simmer to make it thicken) YUM!!!!

Cranberry Chicken II

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2009
I really like this dish. I don't use 2 packages of onion soup mix - I had a previous version of the recipe that called for 1 package and I found that too strong, so I use 1/2 a package. I also subbed low fat french dressing for regular.

Fennel Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2010
This recipe introduced my brother to fennel, which he has now declared "the perfect vegetable". It's a great recipe for guests.

A good, quick weeknight dinner. I will add more veggies for colour and taste next time.

Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts III

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2011
These were a good addition to our appetizer menu at got eaten up. I like the idea of the bacon wrapped water chesnut, but the sauce wasn't to my personal liking, so I think I'll try a different version next time. It just tasted like sweet ketchup to me - why that surprises me, given the ingredients, I do not know.

Excellent. I will use this basic recipe as the jumping off point for chili from now on. Loved it.

Spicy Mango Sweet Potato Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2010
This was an excellent recipe. Next time I will add some red pepper and scale back on the sweet potato. I served over rice and I liked it to soak up some of the sauce, but I didn't need all that starch.

Scallops Provencale

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2009
A great recipe - bookmarking for serving to guests. We didn't have access to sea scallops and had to use a smaller frozen variety, but it turned out fantastic anyway. (We did use larger shrimp to compensate).

Cabbage on the Grill

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2005
I made this the first time to the recipes specifications. It was pretty good (and very easy) so I made it several times more using different spices - paprika and chili, cumin, etc. All were very tasty.

Grilled Spicy Lamb Burgers

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2005
One of the best recipes I've come across on this site. I had to make several modifications to suit the personal tastes (rather, work around the dislikes) of my family. I added chopped vidalia onion, eliminated the cilantro and the mint. I put out tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, and sliced vidalia for garnishes and it was a huge hit.

This was a good recipe. The flavours are nice but not unforgettable. I mixed in hot rice and used it as a filling for lettuce wraps.

Roasted Vegetables

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2003
This was great. After reading the other reviews I decided to omit the rosemary and thyme because I did not have the fresh herbs on had (only dried). It was still delicious with just the oil, balsamic vinegar and salt & pepper. My dinner guests really liked it.
