Streusel Coffee Cake

Reviewed: May 14, 2008
This was pretty good. After trying several coffe cake recipes, this is by far the best. I used a dark bundt pan so as one reviewer commented to watch the baking time I did only have to bake for 35 minutes. I left the nuts out due to nut allergy in the family, but everything else the same. Will make again.

This was okay. I guess if I'm going to the trouble, I'd just make a lasagna. Tasted about the same, just different noodles.

Way too sweet. Cut sugar in half. Otherwise not bad. Not my favorite apple crisp, but not bad.

Pecan French Toast

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2007
Great! I, too, added cinnamon to the mixture, about 1/2 teaspoon and then sprinkled a little more on top before baking. I do have a problem with them sticking so I've started spraying the pan with spray before adding the butter. Very good recipe. My family loves it and it's pretty easy to make.

Chewy Brownie Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2007
Okay. I made these cookies a couple days ago and used butter as some reviewers suggested. Although my family and sister-in-law said they were awesome and raved on and on about them, they turned out quite flat. So, I made them again last night and used the shortening as the original recipe says and I must say that even though I prefer to use butter for health reasons (especially my wonderful local organic butter)they turned out much better as far as the look of the cookie goes. Taste was about even with butter, but not near as flat. They were nice and round and perfect just like a cookie should be. So, I don't know if others have a problem with flatness using butter, but I did. In fact they were so flat that I couldn't even hardly get them off the sheet and they fell apart and were quite a mess. The taste made up for it. BUT with the shortening they are perfect the whole way around. These cookies are just delicious and quite easy to make. Do be sure not to overbake. I baked mine for 7 minutes, then let them sit on the sheet for a few minutes. They WILL seem like they are not done, but don't worry they will harden up a bit. They will harden enough to stay together, but remain chewy enough to think you're almost eating a brownie. Thanks so much for the wonderful recipe!

Real Italian Calzones

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2007
Very, very good. I used my own fillings, but used this for the dough. It was easy to work with and tasted wonderful. I did have to add a little more flour than the recipe called for, probably between 1/4 and 1/2 cup, but the dough turned out very well.

Slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2007
This is a good mashed potato; a little different, but good. I added a little extra garlic to the finished product. For the fact that the crock pot is just an extra pot to clean please remember this. This recipe serves two purposes: 1) To produce a good mashed potato and 2) To allow you to prepare ahead of time and keep them warm until serving. You can certainly make these and serve them immediately. They are just as good. But those of you who want to get them done ahead of time has this option with the crock pot. I personally like the fact that I can make these beforehand, keep them warm and not be mashing potatoes at the last minute. So for me it is worth the extra couple minutes to clean the pot. Either method is fine and both produce a good end product.

Down Home Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2007
I have been looking for "the" macaroni and cheese and this is it. I hate the egg/custardy kind. I always double this and it fits into a 9 x 13 pan perfectly. I do not change any ingredients I just leave off the bread crumb topping. I don't feel it needs it and I just sprinkle the remaining cheese on the top. Even my husband who is not a big mac and cheese fan loves this.

These are great. I've only made them with strawberries (used fresh) and they are delicious. I'm anxious to try the blueberries. Other than the fruit, did not change anything.

Excellent. Only thing I did different was used powdered sugar instead of white sugar in the cream cheese mixture. Used strawberries and blueberries for my fruit. My husband already wants me to make another one.

Awesome. Baked a loaf today and had BLTs with fresh tomatoes from the garden. Oh...how wonderful!!!! I, too, baked mine in the oven like some at 350 for 25 minutes just 'cz I don't like the shape of the loaf from the bread machine. Didn't adjust anything.

French Pastry Pie Crust

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2006
This is my new pie crust recipe. I've been looking for "the" pie crust for some time and just haven't been quite happy. My husband even asked if this was a new recipe and said it was awesome; you've got your pie crust recipe now. Only thing I did different was cut off about 2 T. of shortening and replaced it with butter. Just a little butter to add a little hint of flavor, but not much. The crust was easy to mix (use my KitchenAid processor) and rolled out great. I just can't say it enough...this crust is the bomb!

Puffs

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2006
These are a litte too cream cheesey for us, so next time I would cut back on that. I had a hard time finding wonton wrappers so I found some mini fillo shells in my grocer's freezer section. They are already pre-baked so all I had to do was scoop a little filling in each, reheat in oven for about five minutes and done. Saved ALOT of time by 1)Not having to wrap all those wontons and 2)Not having to fry them. Would suggest this as an alternative if you don't want to take the time or if you can't find the wrappers. Overall, these are good.
