Great-Grandmas Swedish Spritz Recipe

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2014
Just what I was looking for to use with my cookie press. Delicious! I like them plain, but the kids wanted sprinkles on some. After baking, we added a very light coat of a simple glaze (confectioner's sugar & milk) so the sprinkles had something to stick to. This recipe is a keeper.

Corn and Crab Bisque

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2011
I had a can of claw crab meat & needed to make a meal with what I had on hand. This was very yummy! Since I needed to use what I had, I substituted white wine for one can of chicken broth, used Old Bay in place of the cayenne & cajon seasonings, and frozen corn kernels. I also cooked some bacon to crumble over the bowls. I have friends stopping by at lunchtime tomorrow & plan to serve the leftovers. Good stuff!

Slow Cooker London Broil

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2009
A bit of a let down. All the great reviews had me expecting something better. A problem was that it charred against the sides of my crockpot (on low). The sauce was too thick and the taste was too concentrated. I added about a cup of water to thin it out & it was more edible. I won't make this for myself again, however my 4 and 7 year olds, who often don't like meat, really liked this.

Banana Muffins II

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
Loved these! I made mini muffins for a preschool function and they were great. I made them the night before & tested them when they were warm - not too impressed. I was very pleased the next day, though. They're much better after they're fully cooled.

Chocolate Caramel Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2007
Exactly what I was looking for! To me, this is a "grown up" cookie. The dough has a good texture and is not too sweet, and the caramel center is a great surprise. I'm giving these to teachers, bus driver, and friends as a small holiday gift. Thanks for the recipe! I'll be keeping this one for sure.

Pork Fried Rice

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2007
Great way to use leftover pork! I thought it was great, but 5 year old didn't like it even though he loves fried rice when we get Chinese take-out. Go figure.

Fast and Easy Spinach with Shallots

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2007
So quick, easy and flavorful. I'm the only one who likes spinach in my family, so this recipe is great since I can easily adjust it to make just a single portion.

Brownie Mallow Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2007
Yum!! These are great. The only change I made was that I used semi-dark chocolate chips because that's all I had in the pantry. I cut them in small squares because they're very rich, but I keep going back for "just one more!"

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2006
Delicious, easy recipe. I made these this morning with my 2 & 4 year olds. We all had a good time making them, but an even better time eating them! We made them with chocolate chips, and ate them with some jam. YUM!

Blueberry Sour Cream Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2006
Very good. It was a bit too sweet, so next time I'll use less white sugar. I also doubled the blueberries.

Cooked this on the grill using boneless, skinless thighs. It was delicious, fast and super easy. Great summer weeknight meal.

Unbelievable Spinach Calzones

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2006
Delicious! I followed the recipe except for the dough. I used Pillsbury Refridgerated Pizza Dough (one roll made 4 square calzones). It was really yummy & since I didn't have to roll out dough, it was really a quick meal to put together. Near the end of the cook time (it was definitely less than 30 minutes) I brushed egg white on the top to give it that glazed texture. I will definitely make this again.

Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2005
I'm no longer afraid to roast a chicken! This was my first attempt at roasting a whole chicken. It turned out great. I had enough for two dinners. (The leftovers were added to fettucini alfredo.) A definite keeper

Grilled Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2005
Loved it. I'm not sure what "indirect grilling" is, so I put the tenderloin on the top rack of the grill & put a pan underneath it on the bottom rack to catch the drippings. It was delicious. I love garlic, but it did seem a bit overwhelmind (especially the leftovers). I will definitely use this recipe again, but may reduce the garlic powder.

Chicken Cordon Bleu II

Wow! The sauce is amazing. I made it for company & it got rave reviews. A few weeks later I had a major craving for the sauce & just had to make it for dinner that night. Delicious.

Baked Macaroni and Cheese III

Yum! Perfect comfort food for a cold afternoon. I had thirds. For company, I'd probably stick with the "Allie's" Mac & Cheese recipe on this site (it's more time consuming though).

Bella's Rosemary Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2003
This was good, but it took much longer than the suggested time to bake (I thought I cut the pieces small enough, but I guess they need to be even smaller). I also had to use only olive oil because one of my guests can't have dairy products. I think I'll try this again using the butter & adding more salt. It lacked some flavor in my opinion.
