I love to cook for anyone who will eat my food! If there is something I have prepared for myself that I enjoyed eating, I love sharing it with my fellow teachers at school, as well as friends and family.
My favorite things to cook
I am on a big health kick right now, although when cooking for others I vary from full fat to healthy, depending on the crowd. I am an adventurous cook, and love to try my hand at international cuisine. But there is nothing that can compare to my mom's homemade rhubarb pie, chili or other family favorites!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother is of Volga-German heritage, so I love the traditional dishes from that side: beirocks, wild blackberry kuchen (native in Kansas), and fried potatoes and dumplings with watermelon. On my father's side, they had a large family - 13! So Grandma cooked staples like fried chicken, bacon & eggs, and macaroni & cheese.
My cooking triumphs
I make wonderful lunches, usually vegetarian to ensure that I get my 5-11 servings of fruit & veg everyday. My favorite is a soup called Very Vegetable Soup. It's tomato-based, with cabbage and whatever else you have in the fridge. I love it!
My cooking tragedies
I am not patient enough to bake anything that is required to rise. Although this has never caused a real tragedy, I feel confident I would have a disaster if I tried this in the future!
