I'm by no means a professional chef, but I am skilled in the kitchen. I love trying new recipes, and also perfecting ones I've been making my whole life. It's silly, but nothing makes me happier than when someone tells me they absolutely love something that I've cooked or baked.
My favorite things to cook
I love making soups and chili! They're so easy, and really there's no master recipe to follow, so I also think they're really fun.
I'm also very in to baking, and I love making and decorating elaborate cakes and cookies.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom taught me how to cook from a very young age, especially during the holiday season. Every holiday, she makes essentially the same meal, with a couple new things every year. One of my biggest accomplishments has been mastering her stuffing recipe. It's a very basic, simple recipe, with just a few "secret" ingredients, but it's so, so yummy. My siblings and I (and even my close friends) all agree that the holidays aren't really here until we eat it.
My cooking triumphs
I really pride myself on my cake and cookie decorating abilities. One of my first jobs was at a local cookie shop, Blondie's Cookies, where I realized my aptitude for this. I was actually recognized and praised by the owner, and my designs have been featured on their website.
My cooking tragedies
Learning how to make traditional English toffee! I have never had more frustrations, or thrown more ruined recipes away, than when I was trying to perfect this. I finally did it this past Christmas Ever for my boyfriend's familys' celebration, and it was a hit. I tried it again for my family's the next day, and I couldn't get it!
